The Latin name of this plant comes from a legend that Achilles healed his Achilles tendon with the herb. In Chinese Medicine, it is believed to represent the perfect combination of yin-yang energies. The oil is distilled from the herb and its flowers. It should be diluted to avoid skin irritation. Large doses are said to cause headaches or giddiness.

The herb was once used as a medicine to treat nervous conditions including epilepsy, trembling, and hysteria. The scent is used to treat headaches, depression, and stress.
