“What was that about, Denia?” asked Nick interrupting my thoughts.
“Oh, nothing.” I said. Liz gave me a strange look.
“Anyway, while you were talking on the phone, everyone decided that they want to go clubbing,” said Liz.
“Okay,” I said slowly.
“You’re going to join us, right?” asked Nick with his piercing blue eyes.
“Umm… I can’t,” I said squirming.
“Why not?” asked Liz.
“Well, you know how this vacation of mine was for a week? Well, let’s just say it’s ending tomorrow at 1.”
“Why? How come?” asked Nick.
“Something came up,” I replied simply.
“Something came up?!” exclaimed Liz. “Something is not any bigger than this, The Backstreet Boys.”
“Actually, something is,” I replied.
“What is this something?” asked Brian.
“Her sin…” started Liz.
“My job,” I interrupted.
“Oh. It almost sounds like you’re in the music industry like us, by the way you say things,” he replied.
“Funny,” I replied. I glanced over at Nick. He looked a bit confused, but then he figured it out. He’d finally remembered what I’d said about my name before. “Please don’t say anything,” I whispered in his ear. He just nodded.
“Denia, I was wondering if I could talk to you in private for a moment,” asked Nick quietly.
“Sure,” I said whole-heartedly. He got up from the couch and led me out the door and down the hall into his dressing room.
“So…” I started.
“We need to talk,” he said leading me to a chair.
“All right,” I replied.
“About what happened on stage, I’ve been replaying it over and over again in my mind. I’m snapping back to reality again, yet I still think what happened was very…”
“Very what?” I said.
“Very special,” he said.
“Uh huh,” I said. “And?”
“I really want to get to know you better. All I know so far is your name, age, and career.”
“Well, I would like to get to know you better too,” I said smiling.
“Great, so how about we trade digits and we can set up a date?” he asked.
“Umm…if you mean like a relationship date, I can’t do it,” I replied.
“Why not?” he asked a bit hurt and taken a back.
“Nick, you of all people should know why,” I said. “I’m just starting out as an entertainer and no one likes to know you’re seeing anyone and besides…I don’t have the time.”
“I understand,” said Nick. “I just never thought I’d be the one receiving the speech.”
“I’m so sorry. I like you a lot and everything. I want to try for something with you, but I don’t have the time to put into it. If I want something with you, I want it to be special and for it to have a chance to last, you know?” I said.
“I know. So does that mean we could give it a try later on?” he asked with hope.
“Why not?” I replied smiling.
“Sounds great,” he said holding me tight.
“Yea, and in the mean time we can get to know each other better as friends.”
“Sounds alright with me.”
“Yea,” I said.
“So, do you feel this vibrant connection we have or is it just me?” he asked.
“I think I do feel it.” I replied as I laid back on his chest.
“I understand what you’re saying about this, but I don’t know if I can do it. I just don’t know if I can wait around.”
“Well, not to sound demanding or anything, but if you did want to really be with me, then I think you’d be patient enough to wait.”
“I’m not saying I don’t have the patience, though that could be true. It’s simply that I just met you and I feel such a strong force that I just want to start something now.”
“Well, how about a friendship? It can help to build a strong foundation for a relationship later on,” I suggested.
“That sounds smart.”
“So, here’s my phone number,” I said writing it down and handing it to him.
“Thanks, and here’s mine,” he said borrowing the pen to jot it down in my address book.
“I’ll be sure to call you, when everything’s in the clear,” I said.
“By that you mean?”
“It means that I’ll call you when I have reached a secure spot of success, where a relationship won’t affect it.”
“All right.”
“You know what? We should probably be getting back. They might get suspicious,” I suggested as I reached for the knob.
“Yeah, though it’s not like they don’t have just cause to.”
“Maybe,” I said as I opened the door.
