Well, let's say that concert was da bomb! They performed all their hit songs off both the Millennium and Backstreet Boys album. In the middle of "Everybody", I swear there was someone staring at me. I don't know who it is. I just have that feeling. Anyway, they were getting to the climax of the song, when I saw Nick wink at me, or so I thought. I didn't get much time to figure it out since one of the bodyguards standing on the side approached me.
"Miss, I'm going to have to ask you to come with me," said the built man, sounding serious.
"What did I do?" I asked. I started to fidget as my eyes darted at Liz.
"Nothing, just follow me," he said escorting me.
"Can my friend come too?" I asked.
"I'm sorry, but it's only been requested that you come."
"Oh." I said following him. "If I'm not back in 15 minutes, call the police," I shouted back to Liz.
"Gotcha!" she screamed over the noise. Boy, I'll say AJ's got her mesmerized. Doesn't even notice her best friend is being kidnapped.
"So…where are we going?" I asked.
"Oh, well I couldn't tell you this before since there were so many fans around us, but you've been chosen to be in their next number."
"Huh?" I asked confused.
"Okay. The guys are performing 'Back To Your Heart' next and during the show they each serenade it to a girl in the audience."
"Oh," I said getting nervous.
"So, whose girl am I?" I asked.
"Well, that'll just remain a surprise," said the guy.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"Andre. What's yours?" he asked. He really seemed like a nice guy now.
"My name's Denia. It's like Dana, but with a Spanish type of n."
"It's a really pretty name."
"Thanks," I said smiling up at him. Boy, was Liz gonna kill me.
"Well, it's about time to go on soon. You can go wait over there with the other girls," he said pointing towards the right of the stage.
"Thanks. Catcha around!" I said.
"Yea. Have fun!" he said smiling back at me as he walked back outside.
"Hi everyone!" I said approaching the crowd.
"Hi! I'm so nervous," said one girl.
"So whose everyone's favorite?" asked a blonde. I'll take a wild guess and say hers is Nick.
"Okay girls, time to go onstage. Just pick a seat once you're out there," said someone.
We all slowly walked onstage. It was dimly lit and I could see murderous glances from the crowd. I picked a seat near the exit of the stage and searched the crowd for Liz. The lights went on and just as I was about to mouth something to her, the music started.
"Hmm….Ooh….yea…" started AJ, approaching the blonde. "It's not that I can't live without you. It's just that I don't even want to try. Every night I dream about you…"he continued.
I would have paid more attention, but Nick stopped in front of me then and kneeled down. I stared at his blue eyes as he began his solo.
"If I wasn't such a fool, right now I'd be holding you. There's nothing that I wouldn't do. Baby, if I only knew…" he sang.
"The words to say. The road to take to find a way back to your heart. What can I do to get to you and find a way back to your heart," sang the group.
Brian's solo started next, but I couldn't find myself to look at him. I just looked into Nick's blue eyes as he sang the next line.
"Let me prove my love is real. And make you feel the way I feel. I promise I would give the world, if only you would tell me girl," sang Nick.
I looked into his eyes as he continued to sing. His eyes were equally locked on mine. I listened to every word he sang. It was as if, he was really singing this to me. It was as if, we really were together, but we had broken up. I don't know what happened, but as he sang those lines, I started to cry. I felt stupid, but he brushed the tears off my face as fresh ones came to his own. I just don't understand it. I felt the pain in my heart and the lump in my throat. I don't know how I can get so emotional over a song, but I did. I brought my hand to his face and wiped off his cascading tears.
Before I knew it, the song was over and Nick was escorting me off stage.
"I think I love you," whispered Nick in my ear. He called over Andre and whispered something in his ear.
"I think I love you too," I said before he went back on stage. I grabbed his arm and brought him back to me as I leaned up to kiss him. It was a gentle kiss. I pulled away and saw him smile as he went back on stage with the other guys.
"So Denia, have you and Nick met before?" asked Andre in a funny voice.
"Yea, maybe in a previous life." I remarked jokingly.
"I've never seen him act that way before," he commented.
"I've never seen me act that way before. What's gotten into me? How could I say I love you?" I asked gaining common sense again.
"Who knows?" he said.
"Thanks, that's a great help. Anyway, I should probably get back to my seat now. Liz is probably ready to kill me," I said.
"Not so fast, young lady."
"Good lord! You sound like my father. What is it?"
"Oh, it's just that Nick has asked me to have you stay backstage," said Andre.
"No offense or anything. I mean, that sounds great. But I'd rather prefer watching the concert out there," I said.
"Well, if that's what you want. It's just that for your safety you might want to reconsider. The three hundred thousand screaming fans saw you and Nick looking all love dovey. They're pretty aggressive. Are you sure you want to go out there?"
"Well, they shouldn't have a reason to be aggressive. After all, it's not like I'm his girlfriend or anything. But you're right. Could you please send my friend back here?" I asked.
"The girl sitting next to you?" he asked.
"Yup. If you bring the wrong girl back here, I'll let you know," I said smiling.
"Okay. I'll be back in a sec. Now don't you go anywhere," he said leaving.
"Yea, as if I have a place to go," I muttered.
I waited in a corner for Andre to return with Liz. I felt very awkward for being there. Half of me wanted to skip out on Nick, causing a Cinderella type of thing. The other half however was dying to clear things up.
"Hey Denia!" said Liz running over to me.
"Hey girl!" I said.
"You are so damn lucky!" she said slapping me lightly.
"Oh yea," I replied sarcastically. "Andre over there says I could be a murder victim soon."
"You know his name already?" asked Liz shocked.
"Oh yea. I totally forgot to introduce you. Liz this is Andre. Andre this is Liz." I said introducing them.
"Nice to meet you," said Andre.
"Likewise," replied Liz. She turned to face me then as Andre started to lead us to the side of the stage so we could see the performance.
"I'll see you girls in a bit. I have to head back outside," said Andre. "If you need anything just holler to Katie over here."
"Thanks, but I think we'll be fine," I said. He smiled back and left the area.
"Oh my god! I can not believe you! What happened out there?" asked Liz anxiously.
"Well, when Andre pulled me out it was to go onstage to get serenaded. Anyway, I really don't know what happened. Nick was just singing the song and I don't know. I guess I got caught up in the song and the moment and just started crying. Then he dried my tears and all of a sudden he started crying. It's so weird," I said.
"Yea, you can say that again. So, do you like Nick now? Or do you still have a thing for the B-Rokster?"
"Who knows!" I replied. "Can we just drop this? I really don't feel like discussing it."
"Sure. So…can you introduce me to AJ?" she asked.
"I can try when they get offstage after the concert. I can't guarantee it though."
"Well, even if you try, that'd be cool," she said smiling.
"Well, let's just enjoy the rest of the concert for the time being," I said turning to watch what was going on onstage.
"Uh huh," she said mesmerized again. I didn't even have to say anything before.
We watched the concert from the side of the stage and that was kind of a bummer. I mean, chances are anyone would die to watch from back there. But I, I paid a hundred bucks for front row seats and a good performance. The performance was spectacular and all, but it could've been better if I had gotten to watch from outside.
The concert concluded about an hour later and I was tired. I know it sounds crazy to be tired at a concert, but my life has just been so hectic. I've been flying back and forth from Jersey to Florida. Just tell me that you would not be tired. I can't. I would have been asleep, except for the thousands of screaming fans that just gave me the biggest headache possible. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper when they got offstage.
