"Nick, where are you taking me?" I said as I walked onto the beach. I could feel the cool sand between my toes as he led me forward. "Where are we going?" I asked.
"It's a surprise, Denia. That's why you're blindfolded. I hope you like it."
"I'm sure I will, once I realize where I am," I said smiling.
"We're here," he said. "Surprise," said Nick as he took off the blindfold.
"Oh my gosh. It's beautiful," I said taking in the sight. We were on the beach and there was a tablecloth laid down on the sand with a bottle of champagne on ice and a picnic basket on it.
"Do you like it?" he asked.
"I love it, Nick. It's the sweetest thing," I said as I leaned in to kiss him.
"Happy three month anniversary," he said as he led me to the tablecloth.
"Happy three month anniversary, darling," I said back to him. "I can't believe you did this all for me, for us," I said amazed.
"Denia, there's nothing I wouldn't do for you," said Nick popping open the champagne. "This is what I've wanted for the longest time."
I took a sip of champagne he handed me. "I'm sorry to have kept you waiting. You don't know how much it means to me, that you stuck around. Most guys would have said, 'forget it' and left."
"Well, I'm not most guys. I understand you, Denia. I…I…"
"Yes, Nick. Spit it out," I said giggling.
"Denia. I'm trying to say something here."
"Well?"
"I love you," he said as he stared into my eyes with a serious expression. I could see the vulnerability in his eyes. I sat there a moment just gazing into them. I knew the moment I said what I truly felt inside, would change everything.
"Denia?" he asked, shaking me out of my thoughts.
"I'm sorry. I was just taking in what you said. I love you too, Nick."
"You do?" he asked with an expression of shock and relief.
"Of course. Why wouldn't I? You treat me so well and make me feel so incredibly special inside. You do all these wonderful things for me and not Unique. That's why I love you. I don't love because you're Nick Carter of the BSB, but because you're Nick Carter who enjoys life with me."
"I truly love you. I know this sounds corny, but I don't think I've known love before I met you. I mean, sure I've said those three words, but they've never had meaning till now, till you. In the past, it's like I had to say them because I've been with a girl for a while, but with you it's different. I say these three words, because it's how I honestly feel inside."
"You're such a romantic, Nick."
"You are too. Maybe that's why we fit so perfectly," he said before leaning in to kiss me.
"Perfectly," I said after pulling away. We sat there eating the dinner he'd prepared for us. I was in love for the first time. As happy as my heart was, it rested uneasily. Life could be unfair and I knew that as fast as it had given Nick to me, it was as fast as it could take him away. This one thought plagued me for the rest of the night.
