Gaea is the daughter of Chaos. Created from his loving hand with her brothers. Gaea is the goddess of the Earth. She is the Earth and represents the Earth in all aspects. She is the guardian of all beings that reside on the Earth including plant life, birds, fish and insects and of course mankind. She is also a fertility goddess of all beings and life forms and in her own way a creatress.
When it came down to creating all the living being on the Earth, she took dirt from the Earth and used it to mold all the forms that would inhabit the lands, seas and air. She is the mother of all life.
The first temple to Gaea was at Delphi, the centre of the world. She was the first diety to be worshipped there. When mortals men started to ask questions about the world they lived in and what was to be of the future, it was Gaea who instated the first Pythia and oracles at Delphi. GAea was the first diety to show mankind how to read oracles and omens and taught the art of divination.
Often she is seen as a very mature woman, in royal wear, crown and a veil, usually in earthly colors.
Gaea's most sacred symbol is the Omphalos Stone. The sacred stone that sits in the middle on the world at Delphi. The Omphalos stone represents the embilical cord that is hers. A symbol of her fruitfulnes and fertility. Other symbols sacred to her are Geodes, staurolite, fossils, copper, trees, turtles, milk and the colors of Green and Brown.
