"Sure, Jenn, what is it?"
Jenn entered Laura's bedroom and sat on the edge of her bed. Laura put down her book and gave Jenn her full attention. "Laura, I--I just wanna say I'm sorry, for everything. If only I'd have--"
"Jenn," Laura said, putting her hand on Jenn's shoulder, "It's ok, really."
"No, Laura, no it's not. I mean, if I would have just minded my own business, then maybe you and Nick would be together right now."
"Or maybe not," Laura said with a sigh. "I just don't know. I like both he and Kevin so much, but you know what they say... 'three's company,' " Laura said with a chuckle. "And I don't think either guy is interested in a threesome."
"Oh God," Jenn laughed, rolling her eyes. "You've been hanging around with AJ too much lately, haven't you?"
"Heheheh, I guess so," Laura said, inviting Jenn to hug her. "Don't worry Jenn... no matter what, you're my sister and I love ya." Jenn smiled at Laura and her eyes started to water. "Oh no you don't!" Laura commanded. "Don't you start, or I'm gonna too!" she said, trying to break the seriousness. Just then the doorbell rang. Jenn got up to answer the door, leaving Laura to her book.
"Well good morning, Kevin, how are you?" Jenn said, letting him in. "Laura? Kevin's here," she yelled down the hall to Laura's room and sat down with Kevin in the living room. "So, going for breakfast?"
"Uhh, yeah, you could say that," Kevin said, winking at Jenn with a devilish grin on his face.
"Okaayyyy, what was that all about?!" Jenn asked curiously.
"Ohh, nothing," Kevin said, still smiling. "I just have something planned for her, that's all."
Jenn smiled. "OK, I'm not even going to ask, I'm outta here. Brian's expecting me for some early morning b-ball. See ya later," she said with a wink. Kevin nodded as she turned and walked out the door. Just then Laura came down the hallway.
"Hello, Mr. Richardson," Laura said with a smile. Kevin smiled and kissed her hand.
"Hello, Ms. Bradley," Kevin said, still holding Laura's hand. She smiled as she looked into his eyes. "I have a lovely morning planned for us. Shall we?" he asked as he extended his arm. Laura put her arm through his and they were off.
"So what do you have planned for the day?" Nick asked AJ and Misty.
"I think we're headed to the beach. I need to get some sun before we head out on tour again. I'm looking about as white as a sheet," AJ answered, looking at the lack of color on his arms.
"Yeah, well at least you tan," Misty said, tossing AJ a couple large beach towels and some suntan lotion, and he put it in the bag he was packing. "I just burn like a lobster, then I'm as white as I was before," she finished, looking at her fair skin. "So what about you, Nick? Are you seeing Laura today or does Kevin have her all to himself today?" Misty said, smiling at Nick.
Nick grumbled. "Yeah, yeah. I'm seeing Laura today. You know, the more and more I think about this, the more and more I'm realizing that this is going to be a very very long month."
"True, but it'll be over before you even realize it. Nick, you gotta look at the big picture. I mean, if things go well between you two, you could have the love of a wonderful woman," AJ said, smiling and winking at Misty. Misty blushed.
"Yeah, but what if things don't go well? I mean, I'm not necessarily 'competing' for Laura against a hunchback or anything. Kevin's a good lookin' guy, and is charming, and blah-diddy-blah-blah. I've heard so many girls say so before. I just don't think I measure up to him," Nick said with a sigh.
"Well, you're not exactly chopped liver, Nick," Misty said with a chuckle. "I don't know what else to tell you, Nick. You can't gain anything if you don't take chances. The road less traveled will more then likely bring you more opportunity. This is going to be good for you, Nick... either way, I know it will work out for the best. Everything happens for a reason, and you just have to trust in that. Easier said then done, I know, but have confidence. You may surprise yourself," Misty said as AJ nodded in agreement, walking up behind her and wrapping his arms around her.
Nick smiled. "Thanks, guys. I feel a little bit better. Still nervous, but you're right. I've gotta start taking chances. I--I love her. I do. And I would never forgive myself if I didn't try. I just don't like waiting, and--" Nick stopped speaking when he realized that Misty and AJ were kissing, again. They were getting pretty hot and heavy too. Nick laughed. "Geez, you guys... get a damn room! You two are too much sometimes... I'm outta here," he said, walking out the door. Misty and AJ didn't even flinch.
Kevin walked Laura to her door. "I hope you had a good time today. I--I know you have plans with Nick later, so have fun, but not too much fun," Kevin said, winking at Laura.
Laura giggled. "Yeah... well, thanks, Kevin. Thank you for a wonderful day. The picnic was a lovely idea. And it was a beautiful day too. I just love spring," she said with a smile.
"Yeah, me too," Kevin said. He took Laura's hand, and kissed it softly. "Ms. Bradley, always a pleasure."
Laura blushed and smiled. "Mr. Richardson, likewise." Kevin leaned down and kissed Laura on the cheek. "See you soon," Laura said. She turned to unlock her apartment door and Kevin stayed in her hallway until she was inside. Kevin watched as the door shut before him. He smiled to himself and walked out.
Laura walked in to find Brian and Jenn curled up on the couch watching a movie. She smiled at the sight. "Hey you guys, how was the basketball?"
"She kicked my ass... again. I gotta brush up, I didn't realize I was so out of practice," Brian said, winking at Jenn.
"Well, what can I say? When you got it, you got it!" Jenn said arrogantly, then chuckled. "But enough about us, how was your morning?"
Laura sighed as she told Jenn and Brian about Kevin's picnic brunch. "It's just such a wonderful day outiside. The temperature is perfect, and not a cloud in the sky. It couldn't have been any more perfect."
"Sounds like you had a great time, then," Brian said, smiling.
"Yeah, it was great." Laura smiled back, replaying the events of the morning in her head.
"So, now you are going out with Nick later this afternoon, right?" Jenn said, winking, knowing that her sister was probably getting a kick out of this, at least on some level.
Laura smiled. "Yeah, about 5 o'clock. Which reminds me, I have to figure out what I'm gonna wear and how I'm gonna do my hair, all that good stuff, so I'll see ya later!" she said, practically flying down the hallway to her bedroom. Brian and Jenn smiled at each other as they restarted the movie.
