"Hey Misty," Laura said. "Damn girl, slow down. I think your pants are on fire," she added with a chuckle.
"Well, I take forever to get ready and I know this is a big thing for Howie so I just want to make sure I look right, and--" Misty paused for a second and continued. "What'cha making? Smells great!"
"Oh, thanks," Laura said. "I'm surprising Kevin with a big dinner. It was, after all, a month ago today that Kevin proposed to me so I feel we've got some celebrating to do," she finished, smiling ear to ear. Misty smiled too.
"Well, it's so obvious how much you love him, Laura," Misty said, as she started doing her makeup. "And I can't say that I've ever seen a man look at a woman with so much love in his eyes, the way Kevin looks at you," she added, smiling. "I hope I can find that one day."
"Awww, you will, Misty, you will," Laura said. Just then Laura heard the door open. "Damn it, that can't be Kevin home already," she said, rushing to the living room. Indeed it was him. Laura smiled as she ran into Kevin's open arms.
Kevin kissed Laura's lips sweetly. "Mmmm, what's cookin', sweetie?" he asked as he brought Laura's arm up and started kissing her wrist. "Well, that's a surprise, but if you don't stop kissing me and let me go tend to it, whatever it is is going to be burnt," she said, kissing him then turning to walk to the kitchen. Kevin followed close behind. "Oh by the way, Misty's here getting ready. She's in the bathroom."
"Ahhh, I see," Kevin said, then yelled down the hallway to Misty. "Hello, Misty!" Kevin heard a faint hello yelled back at him, then turned back to Laura. She was stirring something on the stovetop. He came up in back of her and wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder as she added some spices to her culinary masterpiece as she stirred. Kevin started kissing her neck. "This all looks so good, beautiful, but I'm saving room for 'dessert' myself," he said, his voice very low and breathy as he continued kissing Laura's neck. Laura stopped stirring for a minute and turned around to face Kevin. She stood up on her toes to kiss Kevin's lips, wrapping her arms around him tightly. Just then they heard someone "cough."
"AHEM!" Misty said as she entered the kitchen. A smile came upon her face. "If this is what cooking dinner is all about, then I better start brushing up on my cooking skills," she said, chuckling a bit. Kevin and Laura chuckled too as Laura turned back to her pans on the stove. Kevin sat down at the table with Misty.
"Well, Misty, you look very pretty this evening," Kevin said as she sat down. Misty blushed. "Ahh you don't have to say that if you don't mean it, Kevin," she said. Laura chimed in as she walked by to the refrigerator. "Kevin never says anything he doesn't mean," she said as she kissed Kevin on her way back to the stove. "Well, then I stand corrected. Thank you so much, Kevin," Misty said, smiling nervously. Kevin picked up on her nervousness. "Hey, it'll be OK. These things aren't as big of a deal as they seem to be. Anyway Howie's the one that should be nervous. All you have to do is stand there and look pretty," he said, smiling. Just then there was a knock at the door. Kevin got up to answer it.
"Hello, Howard," Kevin said as Howie entered. "Misty's ready and waiting." Howie smiled. "I'm so glad she's coming along with me. I'm really gonna owe her big time for saving my neck tonight," he said, as he followed Kevin into the kitchen.
Laura turned just as Howie entered the room. "Hey, 'Jim.' You look simply MAH-velous, dah-ling," she said, kissing him on the cheek as she breezed by on her way to get something out of the cupboard. "Why, thank you! Dinner smells great, by the way," he said, as he noticed Misty sitting at the table. Misty turned and was getting up as Howie approached her. "Wow, Mis, you look great!" he said, smiling in approval. Misty blushed. "Thank you, Howie. You look great too." she said shyly. "Shall we?" he asked, extending his hand. Misty put her hand in Howie's. "We shall!" she said, smiling. Howie smiled back then turned to Kevin and Laura. "You guys have a good dinner. See ya later," he said, as Misty added, "Yeah, and thanks for letting me get ready here."
"Sure thing," Kevin said as he showed them out the door. Just as Kevin returned to the kitchen, Laura was just finishing dinner. He just stood in the doorway watching her, for he loved to watch her do anything, just as long as he could be near her. Laura smiled at him as she went to set the table. "It's almost ready, love," she said as he approached the table and sat down.
"So what are we celebrating, anyway?" Kevin asked playfully, knowing most certainly it was one month ago today they had gotten engaged. Laura knew he was teasing her, so she played along. "Well honey, picture this: a cold lonely hospital room in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A young man, very dapper and charming, and his lady-love are having a romantic night to celebrate being together. The gorgeous and oh-so-sexy young man proposes to his lovely lady. Ring a bell yet?!" she said, smiling sexily at Kevin as she served dinner. Kevin lit the candles that were on the table. "Yes, it's coming back to me, I think. I seem to remember the beautiful woman accepting the young man's proposal. Am I right?" he said, as Laura sat down, and he poured some wine. "Yes, you are very right!" she said, raising her wine glass up as Kevin did the same. "A toast... to the most wonderful woman in the world. I can't imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone else," he said, as he and Laura tapped their glasses. They then began to partake in the dinner Laura had made.
A couple hours had passed. Laura and Kevin had eaten dinner and were sitting in the living room, snuggling on the couch. "Mmmm, I wonder how Misty and Howie are doing, and if Misty calmed down at all. She was so nervous," Laura said.
"I was kind of wondering the same thing myself," Kevin said, kissing Laura. "Great minds think alike," he added as he moved to kissing her neck. "Hmmm, well what am I thinking now?" she asked him playfully. Without an answer they started kissing passionately as they "celebrated" their engagement...
Howie and Misty had drove back to Laura's place to pick up her car. Howie insisted on following Misty home to make sure that she got home safely. He parked in back of her and he got out and saw her to her door.
"I really had a great time tonight, Howie. I'm glad I got to go with you," Misty said, running her hand down Howie's arm and brushing his hand. He took her hand before she could pull it away. "I'm really glad you came too," he said giving her hand a squeeze before letting it go. Misty was really starting to feel overwhelmed by Howie's presence. After all, when they were younger, she had a big crush on him, but she knew that because of their difference in age at that time, he wouldn't have been interested in her. But now she was an adult, a beautiful young woman, and she wanted him to see that. Desperately thinking of a way to make the night continue, she spoke up. "Would you like to come in for a little while, maybe for a cup of coffee or something?" Howie smiled. "Sure, Mis, sounds great!" he said as he followed her inside.
Misty made some coffee and poured a cup for each of them. They made some small talk for a little while and Howie noticed the time. It was almost 1 AM. He needed to get going, so he stood up to leave. Misty showed him to the door.
"Well, I'll probably see you Friday when I meet with Kevin and Laura again," Misty said, as she opened the door for Howie. "Yeah, I'll probably be there," he said. "Goodnight, Misty, and thanks," he finished, kissing her cheek before turning to walk out the door. Misty grabbed his hand and pulled him back. She kissed him feverishly and he soon was returning the favor. Misty wrapped her arms around Howie's neck as he kissed her lips, and moved down her neck as she tilted her head back. She trailed her hands lightly down his chest as he kissed her, moving his kisses down her shoulders. Misty brought her head back up and looked into Howie's eyes before kissing him again. She wanted him, and badly, and she could tell he wanted her too. I can't believe this is happening after wanting him for so long, she thought as she started to unbutton his shirt, rubbing his exposed chest with her soft hands. Howie now tilted his head back as she kissed his neck and moved down to kissing his chest. He let out a low moan as he brought his head back up and kissed her eagerly on her lips as she parted them to accept his tongue. One of Misty's hands traced softly down his chest to his stomach and down to the growing bulge in his pants. Howie sighed as Misty massaged him through his pants and kissed his chest more passionately then before. Misty was satisfied that she was turning him on, and started to unbutton his pants and reached into his boxers to touch his bare skin.
Out of nowhere, Lisa popped into Howie's mind. Oh God, what am I doing? he thought, as he began to pull away from Misty. "What's wrong?" she asked, trying to pull him back to her. "I'm-- I-- I can't do this, Misty. I'm sorry if I--" he said, unable to find the right words. "I just can't... I gotta go," he finished as he fixed himself up as he made his way out the door and to his car. He just wanted to get home and forget about what almost happened. He thought again of Lisa, how she was the one that thought of Misty when he needed someone to take this evening. Howie couldn't deny it, especially after what happened tonight. He was falling for Lisa, and he had decided to tell her, and commit to her, and her alone. Soon Howie was home and decided to call Lisa first thing in the morning as he drifted off to sleep...
