1 Know you not (see 6:3), brethren, (for I speak to them that know law, (the law is in effect for the flesh body)) how that the law has dominion over the person for much such time as the person lives?
2 For the woman which has a husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he lives; but if the husband should have died, she is freed from the law of the husband. (Free to remarry, Jer. 3:8. God divorced Israel. When He died on cross, you were free to start anew, legal and lawful to do so. Do not marry Satan, false Christ)
3 So then if, while her husband lives, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from the law; so that she is not an adulteress, though she be married to another man. (This is an illustration of the fact that death breaks all bonds; husband and wife, master and servant. This is given in a spiritual sense. See Jer. 3:8. God divorced Israel. But when Christ died, she [Israel] was free to re-marry.)
4 Wherefore, my brethren, you also were put to death to the law by the body of Christ; (reconciliation can bring us back, i.e. by the crucified body, not the body of Christ mystical [Eph. 1:23])
to the end that you should be married to another, even to Him who is raised from the dead, in order that we may bring forth fruit to God.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were [called out] by the law (i.e. the Mosaic Law), did work in our members to bring forth fruit to death.
6 But now we are delivered from the law, having died [to that] in which we were held were held; so that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. (We now serve, not, as in our old nature, the letter of the Law, but, following the new nature, on a new and different principle. Cp. 2:29. 2 Cor. 3:6.)

7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. (you can't do away with the law it set the bounds, its the governor, Matt. 5) No, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not recognized [it as] desire [i.e. of the old nature. See John 8:44), except the law had said, "You shall not covet." (Ex. 20:17. The word is used of any strong desire, and applies to the desires of the new nature as well as to those of the old. Cp. Gal. 5:17. Lust after something that is of your neighbors.)
8 But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, worked out in me all manner of concupiscence. For apart from the law sin is dead. (The law is your school-teacher.)
9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came,
sin revived,
and I died. (Nothing wrong with the law. It is man that is bad. Paul was a great scholar, but persecuted Christians. He missed Isa. 7 Emanuel, he missed the coming of Christ until he [Paul] was struck down on road to Damascus.)
10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life,
was itself found by me to be
to death. (He let the "traditions of men" fool him.)
11 For sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. (He was taking God's law out of context.)
12 Wherefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and [for our] good.

13 Did, then, that which is good became death to me? God forbid. No! sin, that it might be seen to be sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. (Sin became his master. Good old trick of Satan taking God's law and twisting it. Satan tempted Christ with Scripture twisting it. Lack of understanding will do that. Paul was honest and humble but mistaken. Hypocrites, play actors, morph being teachers-preachers, a piece here and a piece there instead of connecting it in order.)
14 For we know that the law is spiritual:
but I am carnal (flesh is), sold under sin. (He knew he wasn't perfect)
15 For that which I do I approve not:
for not what I wish, this do I practice; but what I hate, this do I.

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh, (i.e. the old nature)) dwells not a good thing:
for to wish is present with me;
but how to perform that which is good I find not. (The power is not in the flesh, its in the spirit.)
19 For the good that I would I do not (can't get it done): but the evil which I would not, that I practice.
20 But if I do not myself wish (against my wishes), this I do, no longer I myself do it, but sin that dwells in me.

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and leading me captive to the law of sin (i.e. the old nature) which is in my members. (There is nothing wrong with admiring something that is natural, its not lust.)
24 Wretched man that I am!
who shall rescue (see Matt. 6:13) me from the body of this death? (The body of sin)
25 I thank God, He will deliver me through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So then with the mind [the new nature] indeed I myself serve the law of God (This is the experience of everyone who is the subject of the grace of God, and has received the gift of the new nature as the sign of God's justification. Not the experience of one man in 2 successive stages, but the co-existence of the 2 experiences in the one person at the same time); but with the flesh the law of sin. ( Common sense, you can teach God's law from nature itself.)
