Psalm 96)

1 O sing to the LORD a new song: (Ps. 96 is the call; Ps. 97 the answer. Cp 98 and 99. The subject is the coming rest for the earth, to which creation looks forward [Rom. 8:18-23].)
Sing to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Sing to the LORD, bless His name; (See 20:1.)
Show forth His salvation from day to day.
3 Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples.

4 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised:
He is to be feared above all rulers. (See Ex. 22;9.)
5 For all the gods of the peoples are nothings: (Cp. 1 Cor. 8:4.)
But the LORD made the heavens.
6 Honor and majesty are before Him:
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

7 Give to the LORD, O you kindreds of the people,
Give to the LORD glory and strength.
8 Give to the LORD the glory due to His name:
Bring an presence offering, and come into His courts.
9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: (See 1 Chron. 16:29)
Tremble before Him, all the earth.
10 Say among the heathen that the LORD reigns:
The world also shall be established that it shall not be moved:
He shall judge the people righteously.
11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; (The initials of the 4 Hebrew words making this sentence an acrostic, giving the 4 letters of the word Yahaveh [Y,H,V,H] thus: Yismehu Hashshamayim Vethagel Ha'arez. The Massorah has a special rubric calling attention to this acrostic.)
Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof.
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein:
Then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice
13 Before the LORD:

For He comes, for He comes to judge the earth:
He shall judge the habitable world with righteousness,
And the people with His truth. (No rest or righteous rule for the world and its inhabitants until He comes. The next Psalm is "the New Song", celebrated this by anticipation.)
