Psalm 105)

1 O give thanks to the LORD; call upon His name:
Make known His deeds among the peoples.
2 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him:
Talk you of all His wondrous works.
3 Glory you in His holy (set apart, see Ex.3:5) name:
Let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
4 Seek the LORD, and His strength:
Seek His face at all times (or continually).
5 Remember His marvelous works which He has done;
His wonders (i.e. the miracles in Egypt), and the just decisions (given at Sinai) of His mouth;
6 O you seed of Abraham (i.e. Israel, cp. 1 Chron. 16:12) His servants,
You sons of Jacob His chosen.
7 He is the LORD our God:
His judgments are in all the earth.

8-12. COVENANT IN PROMISE. 42-45-. COVENANT IN PERFORMANCE.
V  n  8-10. The Covenant remembered.
    o  11. The land given.
     p  12. The People described.
V  n  42,43. The Covenant remembered.
    o  44. The Land possessed.
     p  45-. The People described.

8 He has remembered His covenant for ever,
The promise which He commanded to a thousand generations.
9 Which covenant He solemnized with Abraham, (Cp. Gen. 12:7; 15:18; 13:14-17.)
And His oath to Isaac; (Cp. Gen. 26:3,4)
10 And [He] established the same to Jacob for a law, (Cp. Gen. 28:15; 35:12; 48:1-4; 50:24; and cp. Mic. 7:20, and Heb. 11:13.)
And to Israel (i.e. the natural seed. See Gen. 32:28; 43:6; 45:26,28) for an everlasting covenant: (See Gen. 9:15, and Isa. 44:7.)

11 Saying, "To you will I give the land of Canaan,
The measuring line (put for inheritance measured off by it) of your inheritance:"

12 When they were but a few men of number; (I.e. soon numbered [see "almost" Prov. 5:14]. Cp. Gen. 34:30. Deut. 4:27; 26:5. Jer. 44:28 [the opposite is "without number", Ps. 40:12.] This could not be said of the Patriarchs.)
Yes, very few, and strangers in it.

13 When they went from one nation to another,
From one kingdom to another people; (Cp. v.23.)

14 He suffered no man to do them wrong:
Yes, He reproved kings for their sakes;
15 Saying, "Touch not My anointed,
And do My prophets no harm." (I.e. those who were men of God, and His spokesmen. Abraham so called [Gen. 20:7].)

16 Moreover He called for a famine upon the land:
He broke the whole staff of bread.

17-22. THE MISSION OF JOSEPH. 26-41. THE MISSION OF MOSES AND AARON.
m q 17. The sending of the Deliverer.
    r 18,19. Trial by the Word [Joseph].
     s  20-22. The deliverance.
m q 26. The sending of the Deliverers.
    r  27-36. Trial by the Word [Egypt's].
     s  37-41. The deliverance.

17 He had sent a man before their face,
Even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: (Cp. Gen. 37:28.)

18 Whose feet they hurt with fetters: (Further particulars Divinely revealed.)
His soul was laid in iron: (Put for manacles made from it.)
19 Until the time that his word came to pass: (I.e. Joseph's word: i.e. his interpretation of the dreams. Cp. Judg. 7:13,21. 1 Sam. 9:6)
The utterance (as in Ps. 119:38 = what is said; here, the prophetic promise) of the LORD tried him.

20 The king sent and loosed him; (Cp. Gen. 41:14,39,40,44.)
Even the ruler of the peoples, and let him go free.
21 He made him lord of his house,
And ruler of all his substance:
22 To bind his princes according to his soul (i.e. his will);
And teach his elders wisdom.

23 So Israel came into Egypt; (Cp. v.13 and Gen. 46:1.)
And Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.

24 And he increased His People greatly;
And made them stronger than their adversaries.

25 He turned their heart to hate His people, (Cp. Ex. 1:10; 4:21)
To deal subtlety with His servants.

26 He sent Moses His servant; (Cp. v.17, Ex. 3:10.)
And Aaron whom He had chosen.

27 He showed the words of His signs among them,
And wonders in the land of Ham. (I.e. Egypt. Cp. 78:51; 106:21.)
28 He sent darkness, and made it dark; (This was the 9th plague [Ex. 10:21]. All are not mentioned, not being needed. This is put 1st for the purpose implied in the next line.)
And they rebelled not against His word. (I.e. Israel did not rebel against the command for circumcision. According to Ex. 12:48, no uncircumcised person could eat the Passover. This is implied in Josh. 5;2 by the expression, the "second time".)
29 He turned their waters into blood,
And slew their fish.
30 Their land swarmed with frogs in abundance,
[And they entered] into the chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came divers sorts of flies,
And [there came] lice in all their borders (or boundaries).
32 He gave them hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
33 He smote their vines also and their fig trees;
And brake the boundary trees.
34 He spoke, and the locusts came,
And caterpillars, and that without number,
35 And did eat up all the herbs in their land,
And devoured the fruit of their ground.
36 He smote also all the firstborn in their land,
The firstlings of all their strength. (put for those produced by their strength or manly vigor)

37 He brought them forth also with silver and gold:
And there was not one feeble person among his tribes. (I.e. Israel's [or Yehovah's].)
38 Egypt (put for Egyptians; the people, not "land") was glad when they departed:
For the fear of them fell upon them.
39 He spread a cloud for a covering;
And fire to give light in the night.
40 The people asked, and He brought quails,
And satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
41 He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out;
They ran in the dry places like a river.

42 For He remembered His holy promise,
And Abraham His servant.
43 And He brought forth His people with joy,
Even His chosen [People] with gladness:

44 And gave them the lands of the nations: (Cp. v.11)
And they inherited the labor (put for that which is produced by it) of the peoples;

45 That they might observe his statutes,
And keep his laws.

Halleluyah. (= Praise you Yah.)
