          The Warning

Lane appeared at a vacant table in a dark nightclub. His table sat in a dark corner hidden by, and from, the other club goers. A smile touched his soft pink lips. He was dressed in his usual assortment of clothes. A pair of light worn out old jeans, a black t-shirt with white writing across the chest, and a pair of reflective sunglasses. Tonight his shirt read “Chicks dig scrawny pale guys” and his unruly hair was as straight as he could get it.

Suddenly he noticed someone walking in his direction out of the corner of his eye. He turned to get a better look and smiled when he realized who it was. A tall light brown haired young woman, about his age, was walking towards him with a drink in hand.  The young female was pretty enough even though she was a little chubby. But she wasn’t chubby in a bad way, more like a teddy bear sort of way. She wore a black v-neck shirt that accented her best features with a pair of black flare pants and a chestnut colored suede jacket. Upon her feet she wore a pair of rugged Mary Janes while her short hair was pushed out of her face with a black headband. A pair of rectangle cobalt blue glasses rested perfectly on her nose. A single black strand of ribbon with a pebble sized cobalt blue stone was draped around her neck and a silver beaded bracelet hung around her wrist. A smile stood strong on her scarlet red lips that was aimed directly for Lane.

“Well, Jenny, it was nice of you to show up.” Lane said as the girl took the seat across from him. She set her drink down in front of her on the table.

“I thought that since it was you that requested an audience with me that I should at least make an appearance.” Jenny replied with a small laugh. Lane smiled back. “So why was this meeting called?”

Lane looked around the room then back at Jenny. “I know why the Corporates took you.”

    “Really? Why?”

“They cloned you.” Lane replied then scanned the room again.

“How is it that you know about my clone and I don’t, when it is my clone?” Jenny questioned taking a small sip of her drink.

    “Simple. She came after Peter.”

“Okay, but if she came after Peter and not you, then why isn’t Peter here having this conversation with me instead of you? And how did you find out that I had a clone if she went after Peter?” Jenny interrupted. She was a very impatience woman at times.

“Peter would have come but I thought it better that I come. Also I think he was still a little shook up about the incident. As for me knowing, well that’s my business isn’t it,” Lane grinned. He knew Jenny was dying to know what had happened.

“Well, don’t just sit there, Blondie. Spill it, or I might just have to have a sudden burst of lightening appear and light a small fire under you butt that will make you want to tell me.” Jenny loved to threaten Lane even though he was a close friend. They had a special love-hate friendship. Meaning they loved each other but were always picking on and hitting each other. Either with threats or physically hitting each other.

“Whoa, back off Mother Nature. I’ll get to it sooner or later.” Lane said with a hidden smirk.

“Hopefully it’s sooner rather then later or you’re going to have one sore ass.” Jenny sneered. She would have no problem singeing Lane a little. The only way to get him to work was to light a real fire under his butt not just talk about it.

“Okay, okay. I’ll tell you what happened.” Lane paused for a moment as he grinned at Jenny. Jenny reached across the table and smacked Lane on the chest. “All right, I’m going.” He said rubbing his chest.

“Get with it or next time I’ll go for your nipples.” Jenny giggled then gave Lane a serious look.

Lane looked at her and realized she wasn’t lying. He crossed his arms and began to tell her what had happened. “Well let’s see. Oh yes. Your evil clone went after Peter. She tired, and almost succeeded, in seducing him.” Jenny tried to hold back her giggles but couldn’t help but laugh out loud. It was just too funny not to. Soon she had Lane laughing as well.

Finally after they both had had a good laugh, Lane continued on with the story. “I came to find Peter in her poisonous grasp. Peter knew it wasn’t you right off. He said that you were less as revealing when you flirted with him and that you dressed more conservative then she did. And I must admit I’m glad you do.” Lane grinned.

“I’d be careful what you say Blondie. I’m your only link to being allies with the Kebb Squad. Also I could always forget the just threatening and actually do as I threaten. Meaning I could make your life pretty much hell except maybe a little wetter and a little colder.” Jenny smiled a sarcastic smile. She didn’t like it when people made fun of her in any way. She had a little more tolerance for friends then strangers but either way punishment was due.

Jenny picked up her glass and pretended to take a drink while she really mumbled a few words under her breath. As she set her glass back on the table a huge smile touched her lips and Lane knew what she had done.

“Get rid of it or I won’t tell you the rest of the story.” Lane demanded. Jenny stomped a foot and frowned.

“Fine! Winter has fallen. Disappear.” Jenny said as she waved nonchalantly at the daisy on Lane’s head. “I was just getting back at you.” Jenny said with a sly smile. “Besides I think you look good with a flower on you head.”

“Ha ha. Very funny. Yes, yes I look good with a flower on my head. Very stylish. But no. Anyways the truth is that I like the way you dress. Stylish in your own way. Not afraid to wear what you feel is cool. I was just messing with you. Besides I do care about the revs being allies with the Kebb Squad. Why do you think that I’ve come to your rescue so many times?” Lane responded as he smiled at Jenny.

“Ha. I know there’s another reason you come and save me.” Jenny stated with a sheepish smile.

“Okay, I confess. You’re a good friend to have around. And you’ve come to my rescue a few times too. It’s nice to have someone on the outside in case you’re stuck on the inside.” Lane smiled an apologetic smile at Jenny and she returned it with one of her own. “Now can we get back to the discussion of your evil clone?” Lane asked and Jenny nodded. “Good. Where was I? Oh yes. I got to the site and broke your clone off of Peter. At first I though it was you but then I realized the obvious and found out what Peter had. That it wasn’t you but a clone or someone who looked exactly like you. I asked her who she was and she replied that her name was Siren and she was some chick named Jenny’s clone.”

“Siren. Hmm. I wonder why they named her that.” Jenny chimed in as she took a drink of her clear sparkling drink.

“I can only guess.” Lane interjected. “But what I do know is that she is your clone. She’s exactly like you. She thinks like you, acts like you and practically is you except that she wants to kill you. In some way I think that she can get into your mind and even see what you’re thinking. Not like I can but in some other way. Oh yeah and except for the difference in clothing choice, I believe the Corporates did an excellent job in cloning you. She’s a little wild and acts like a temptress but that must have been what they wanted or they wouldn’t have made her that way. Plus when she tries to use you powers they can only be used for darkness.” Lane finished.

“Why would they ever want to change a perfect being like me?” Jenny questioned as she tried to hold back her giggles. Lane chuckled and she cracked up laughing.

Soon they calmed down and caught their breath. Lane was the first to speak. “I’ve told you about your clone, now I’m must warn you about her. The Corporates did make her for other reasons then just seducing Peter.” Jenny snickered and Lane smiled. The picture was just too funny not to. “But really Jenny you’ve got to watch for her. She’s dangerous. You know that Peteri is always on Peter’s trail and trying to assassinate him. Well Siren will most likely do the same thing to you. Like you said earlier, you’re the only one who can keep the revolutionists and the Kebb Squad allies. I’ll keep my eyes out and I know the other revolutionists will too.” Lane wrapped up. He looked directly into Jenny’s green-blue eyes through the clear glass of Jenny’s cobalt blue frames and gave a half smile.

“Great. Another person who wants to kill me.” Jenny said with a faked laugh. But Lane saw that her eyes had become worried. He knew Jenny didn’t like the ideas of someone else after her head. She was already scared of the damn Endalls.

“Hey, don’t worry about it. You’ll be okay. Peter and I, as well as the other revs, won’t let anything happen to you. And neither will your squad.” Lane said trying to comfort her.

Jenny gave a small smile. “I know you revolutionists won’t let anything happen to me. I’m your only link to the Kebb Squad. And I suppose my squad won’t let me either even though I sometimes find that you revs like me more.” She said still a little down.

“How can we not like you? You’re a wonderful person with a great personality. Not to mention that you pretty and very stylish.” Lane said trying to make her feel better. She gave him another small smile as she began to think about Siren.

“Well I hate to leave you but I’ve got other stuff to attend to. Not to mention taking care of poor traumatized Peter. He’s still a little freaked.” Lane said with a smile as he got up from his chair.

“Wait.” Jenny jumped up from her chair. “If my clone went after Peter then she’ll go after you. I should warn you about her. Keep an eye out for an UJP.”

    “A what?” Lane asked puzzled.

“A UJP. An Unidentified Jenny Person.”

“Ah yes. I will as well as looking out for the Endalls and Corporates. Not to mention Gure and the Dark Master.” Lane sighed. “Why do you have to like me so much? I’ve got all your enemies after me as well mine.”

“Oh shut up.” Jenny said as she hit Lane’s right arm lightly. Lane smiled. “You’re just mad because I don’t…” Jenny stopped suddenly as she heard the first few notes of a familiar song.

“I’m mad because you don’t what?” Lane prompted. Then Lane recognized the song as “What a good boy” by the Barenaked Ladies. He smiled knowing what Jenny was going to ask.

“Oh um… you're just mad because I don’t like you as more then a friend.” Jenny said without feeling. Lane wasn’t quite sure if he believed it or not. Jenny had been known to fall for her close guy friends. Jenny continued, “Lane I know you have a lot to do but you wouldn’t by chance have time to dance with me?” Jenny asked as she looked up into Lane’s reflective sunglasses wishing she could see his eyes.

Oh, how she loved his eyes. Why does he have to always wear those damn sunglasses even when we’re inside? Jenny asked herself as she waited for Lane’s reply.

Lane cracked a smile. He had guessed exactly right. “I think I have time for one. I don’t see how much worse Peter could get.” He said as he held out one hand for Jenny and removed his sunglasses with the other.

Jenny smiled. Wow, you actually listened to me. She thought.

Well I know how much you love my eyes. Lane replied inside her head as he smiled at her. And your eyes. Jenny added as she blushed a little. She let Lane take her hand and lead them both out on to the dance floor. She looked up into his blue-gray eyes and smiled even wider.

Just to annoy Lane, Jenny reached up and messed with his hair. For a punishment she got tickled on her sides.

Finally Lane stopped tickling her and they danced quietly together for the rest of the song. Jenny listened to the music as it mixed with the beats of her heart while she danced. Lane continued to think just like always but he was aware of Jenny’s actions and movements as well as the notes and lyrics of “What a good boy”.
