The Unexpected Attack
Jenny
walked silently down the dark damp sidewalk. It was a cold evening with a gentle
wind coming off the bay. She walked along the waterfront by herself with only
the bight moon and the tiny twinkling stars sitting against the blackish-blue
backdrop to keep her company.
Suddenly
a gust wind blew off the water at her. She shivered and slipped her hands into
the pockets of her polar fleece jacket. She shook her head a little and looked
out at the waving sea.
Tonight she adorned a somewhat stylish outfit. Mostly she had
dressed for warmth and comfort. She wore a long sleeved deep purple V-neck under
her black polar fleece jacket. She also wore a pair of black button fly flare
pants and a pair of black chunky lace up shoes. Her hair was pulled back out of
her face with a deep purple hair scrunchie.
She
just had to get out of her base. She was just getting frustrated with all of it.
Frustrated with some of her members, frustrated with some of the allies as well
as with the pain in the butt non-allies. But most of all she was frustrated with
the Dark Master and his Corporate Tyrants. Lately the Corporates had really been
causing trouble. They were popping up everywhere on Earth and at anytime of day.
Actually it probably wasn’t safe for Jenny to be walking around by herself,
but she didn’t care. She was tough and could very well take care of herself.
Besides it wasn’t likely that any of her squad members even knew she had left.
They were too busy fighting and arguing with each other to even listen to what
she, their leader, had to say.
Jenny
sighed. It’s not as if her squad members did care about her because they did.
She had a lot of friends on her squad and she got along with all her members
most of the time. It was just that with all the Corporate raids and Corporates
suddenly showing up and attacking, they were all a little more stressed then
usual and really could use a good nights sleep without having to worry about a
Corporate showing up at any moment and trying to kill them.
She
began to walk faster as the wind picked up speed.
All of the sudden, out of nowhere, two figures appeared before her. She stopped in her tracks and soon realized who one of the figures was. It was Lane, one of the Chosen Keebler Revolutionists.
Jenny
snarled. She hated the revolutionists. She had since she had first became a
member of the Kebb Squad. It was part of who they were. Members of the Kebb
Squad did not get along at all with the Keebler Revolutionists. In fact, that
was part of the reason the Kebb Squad had broke away from the revolutionists. And as the Revolutionists would have it, the fighting was
still growing.
“Lane,
what the hell do you think you’re doing here? Earth is the Kebb Squad
territory, as well as some of the other squads. But that doesn’t involve you!
I told you to stay out of my way!” Jenny shouted. Lane made her angry. He was
always in her way and always trying to talk her into things.
“Oh,
I’m sorry, Princess, but I’m kind of busy right now.” Lane said slicing a
dagger at the unfamiliar figure in front of him.
Jenny
crossed her arms and watched as Lane fought the figure. Jenny, being the
impatient woman that she was, got tired of standing around and decided to take
matters into her own hands. Not because she wanted to help Lane but because she
wanted to be on her way. If Lane hadn’t been in her way she would have left
him there to deal with it on his own.
She
dropped her hands to her sides then slowly made them rise, bringing in clouds
and pulling them together. The negative charged particles began to mix with the
positive charged particles of the clouds and a storm began to brew. She slapped
her palms together bringing a crash of thunder then a flash of lightening, which
just missed her target. She slapped her palms together again. This time the
lightening was a direct hit. The lightening and hit the dark figure barely
missing Lane. Lane jumped back when he saw the lightening and tripped, landing
on his butt on the ground. The figures body disappeared.
Jenny
threw her head back and laughed. “Not very good on our feet, our we?” she
said with extreme hatred in her voice.
“Only
when I have some crazed lunatic shooting lightening at me.” Lane replied as he
clambered off the ground. He turned to face Jenny and gave her a small smile.
“I
wasn’t aiming at you!” Jenny stated as she pushed passed Lane returning her
hands to her pockets and continued to walk down the sidewalk. “It’s not my
fault that you got in the way.” Jenny finished with a grin.
“Well
hello to you too.” Lane said sarcastically. He didn’t get along well with
Jenny or the rest of her squad but lately he had been trying to at least be
civil to her. He knew by the way things were happening lately that he could or
would need the help of her and her squad in the near future. Things were
happening and for once he had no idea what was going to happen. In a way, it was
kind of scary.
Although
Lane was trying to be civil, Jenny cared nothing about the fact that in the near
future an alliance between the revolutionists and the other squads could be
helpful. She was as rude to Lane as possible. Which was at some points,
extremely rude.
“Why
is it that you’re always rude to me when you know that what I say is true?”
Lane asked remembering his goal to be civil to her. He hadn’t planned on
asking her about this but he had been thinking it. Her didn’t know why she did
it but he had some idea.
“I
have no reason to be nice to you. I don’t like you, remember?” Jenny yelled
not bothering to stop walking. Lane jogged to catch up with her then began to
take his normal long strides as he walked next to her.
“Well
how come you don’t like me?” Lane asked only because he had to. He didn’t
care whether or not Jenny liked him, or any of the other revolutionists. But he
was trying to persuade her to do what he wanted. He had to play nice, behave,
and be polite. It was like being in kindergarten all over again. Sometimes Jenny
did act like a five year old but he would never say it out loud because he knew
the full extent of her powers and frankly, he didn’t really want to see them
right now.
“Doesn’t
matter. I still don’t like you.” Jenny replied childlike. She knew what Lane
was doing. He wanted something. She could tell. He was being nice to her because
it could help him with what he wanted. But she wasn’t about to give him what
he wanted. That was against who she was.
“Come
on Princess. Help me out. Send me a message.” Lane said sticking his hands
into his pockets.
Jenny
stopped. She was getting pretty annoyed. Lane stopped next to her and she turned
to face him. “You want a message. I’ll give you a message. In fact, I’ll
give you more then one. First: I don’t want you to bring your battles to Earth
ever again. Second: I don’t like you and I won’t ever like you. And
third…” Jenny stopped and smiled. She moved her hands the way she had
earlier to make the lightening return. She was about to slap her palms together
when Lane made a fast move and pulled her into his arms. Jenny’s hands fell
upon his chest before she even realized what had happened.
“Hit
me and hit yourself.” He whispered in her ear while a flirty smile. At his
touch around her waist, Jenny felt weird. Something inside her did something she
had never felt before. Her concentration on the lightening was broken and now
moved on to Lane.
She
slowly looked up into his uncovered eyes, which was quite unusual seeing as he
always wore his reflective sunglasses to cover them. They were an amazing color
of blue and gray. They almost looked the color of storm clouds.
Surprisingly
to herself as well as Lane, Jenny stayed in his arms longer then anyone would
have thought possible, staring up into his eyes. Lane looked down into hers and
soon remembered whom he was holding in his arms. For some reason it felt kind of
nice but he knew that it wasn’t right. Something funny was just going on and
any moment Jenny would push away from him and shoot lightening at him. But he
didn’t want to make the first move in case his touch could change her mind and
make her squad allies with the revolutionists. If his touch could make her
change her mind about the Revolutionists, then he would hold her as close as
possible and for as long as she would stay there.
They
stood frozen for a few more minutes just staring into the other’s eyes. Lane
afraid that if he moved the spell would be broken and Jenny would not be in
control of her senses. Her head was spinning and she was lost in confusion.
Suddenly a frigid wind blew strongly at them and Jenny caught a deep breath of
air, clearing Jenny’s head somewhat. Suddenly she realized what was going on.
She shook her head and, regretfully, pushed out of Lane’s arms. She began to
walk as she thought and tired to figure out what had just happen.
I
can’t believe I just stood in Lane’s arms and enjoyed it. And oh my gawd I
can’t believe I actually thought of Lane romantically. But, oh, his eyes. They
were so enticing. ” She
swooned, yet at the same time, shuddered. Lane smiled a little and ran to catch
up with her.
“I
can be quite romantic if you let me. And maybe from now on when I come to see
you, I’ll leave my sunglasses on the Particus.” Lane said looking sideways
at her. He couldn’t believe that Jenny had actually thought of him as a future
lover. From his side, he knew that she wasn’t the only one who had enjoyed the
few moments together but he wasn’t about to tell her that. He had a big
advantage over her. He could read her mind but she had to guess what he was
feeling. “So does this mean that you’ll be nice to me now?”
Jenny
was so confused she put on her hatred of the revs mask while her head kept
spinning and spinning, trying to figure out what her heart was really trying to
tell her. “ Go to Hell Lane!” Jenny replied not with her usual anger and
hatred.
“Ouch!
Total burn.” Lane said with a chuckle as he showed her in three words how
insensitive he could be. He had thought that it was a funny way o turn around
what Jenny had said.
Before
Jenny let Lane continue she mumbled a spell under breath and turned him to ice.
She grinned. To bad she couldn’t keep him like this forever. She liked him
this way. He couldn’t talk and he could move but she could still look at him
if she chose to.
You
know, Jenny, this isn’t very nice. You should let me out.
Lane said sneaking into Jenny’s mind. I could take you into my arms again.
After all, last time you seemed to enjoy it.
“Oh
sure, he can still use his powers!” She complained out loud. She wasn’t
ready to face that she had enjoyed that five minutes in his arms. Then she
grinned. A plan had just come to mind. “Well Lane I don’t think I will. I
think I’ll send you to some random place and let you figure out what to do.
And if I see you on Earth again, I’ll do worse then just threaten you with
lightening and turning you to ice. I might actually decide to get rid of you. So
stay away or be prepared to face what I shall dish out.” Jenny said to Lane
and then muttered the incantation, waved her hand, and within seconds Lane was
gone.
She
hadn’t been mean when she had said her last words, just strong. Her head was
still quite confused and was now bringing her heart into it. If she wasn’t
careful, she might end up giving Lane exactly what he wanted, and in the process
she was bound to get hurt
