Jenny's Night Out
Introduction by Lane Carman
Background: Lane
disappeared a few months ago. Nobody seems to know what happened to him.
Everything else you should figure out as you read. If not, go to Keebler
Revolution.
Jenny
smiled as the dance club put on her favorite song. She stood up and walked over
to the dance floor.
This had to be the easiest mission she had been on in quite a while. Tech
said that there might be a Corporate raid nearby, but Jenny had been here for
hours and everything seemed normal. She started moving to the beat of the song,
smiling.
Hello Jenny.
Jenny froze. That voice had been in her head. She grumbled to herself and
walked to the figure leaning up against the wall looking at her.
The figure was tall and blonde, with reflective sunglasses covering his
blue-gray eyes. “What do you want Lane?”
Lane smiled. “Nice to see you, too. How’s everyone on the Kebb
Squad?”
“Cut the small talk,” Jenny interrupted. “I told you
never to bring your battles to Earth again. What do you want?”
Lane stopped smiling. “We fight the same enemy. The Dark Master wants
more then just Earth. He wants to destroy the Keebler Revolution as well.”
“Yes,” Jenny said, “but the Kebb Squad is not enemies with the
Peace Force, Sciences, or Magicks. You make enemies faster then we do.”
Lane grunted. “Ever heard of Gure?”
“Yeah,” Jenny said with a wicked smile. “That was you when you went
traitorous.”
Lane grunted again. “Close enough. I just wanted to warn you about
him.”
“You’re warning me about yourself?”
“No,” Lane said. “I’m not Gure.”
Jenny looked long and hard at Lane. “What are you talking about?”
“I’ve been… searching for the past year. I have reason to believe
that I’m not Gure, or ever have been Gure.”
“What are you talking about? Clones?”
“Something like that. Anyway, I have to go now.”
Jenny sneered. “Good riddance, and may we never meet again.”
“We will meet again,” Lane said. “Like it or not, but the Kebb
Squad and the Keebler Revolution stand for the same thing; a universe without
the oppression of the Dark Master. We are allies, and the sooner you figure that
out the sooner we can pool our forces.”
Before Jenny could argue with him, Lane disappeared. Teleporter,
she thought to herself. Figures.
Jenny returned to the dance floor, but could not forget the conversation
she had just had, no matter how hard she tried. As much as she hated to admit
it, Lane had a point; They did stand for the same thing.
Jenny
returned to the dance floor, but still could not forget the conversation she had
just had, no matter how hard she tried. As much as she hated to admit it, Lane
had a point; they did stand for the same thing.
Finally,
Jenny can’t stand to think of Lane and the other revolutionists anymore. She
shakes her head then slips in between the dancing people towards the middle of
the dance floor becoming lost in the other dancers.
When
the fast song ends, the DJ puts on a slow song and Jenny, not having anyone to
dance with, makes her move to leave the dance floor. As she turns around to head
for an empty table in a dark corner, she bumps into someone.
“I’m
sorry I…” Jenny starts but realizes its Tech. “Hey. What are you doing
here? I haven’t seen any Corporates around. What’s going on?”
Tech
puts his arms around Jenny’s waist and begins to move to the music. Jenny puts
her arms around his neck and moves with him. “ Okay now spill it.” Jenny
says looking at Tech impatiently.
“It
was a false alarm. The Corporates weren’t really going to come. Zubinmata
heard wrong. They were talking about a past attack.” Tech explains leading
Jenny towards a dark corner, dancing in and out of the other couples.
“Well,
I guess I hung out here for nothing. But at least I got to listen to some good
music and dance. Over all I had a good night for being on a mission and running
into Lane.” Jenny says making Tech’s jaw drop.
“You
told Lane never to bring his battles to Earth again. What was he doing here?
What did he want with you?” Tech asks worriedly.
“Relax.
It wasn’t Gure. It was the real Lane. The Corporates took him prisoner and he
seems to think that they cloned him. He came to warn me about Gure and inform me
of something I should have realized a while ago.” Jenny tells Tech.
“What?”
The
song ends and Jenny lets go of Tech and shows him to an empty table. “He said
that we are both on the same mission, to defeat the Dark Master. He also said
that the sooner I figured it out the better. Ever since he left, I’ve been
thinking about what he said and I believe he’s right. We need to become allies
with the revolutionists. Together we may have a chance to defeat the Dark
Master.” Jenny explains sitting forward in her chair and leaning on the table.
“Are
you sure about this? Are you sure we can trust the revolutionists?” Tech asks
not to sure of his leader’s actions.
“I’m
not happy about joining forces with Lane and the other revolutionists but we are
on the same side. And if we pull together we will be more powerful. Tech, I’m
very sure about this and I do believe we can trust them.” Jenny says looking
Tech straight in the eyes.
“Okay
whatever you say boss.” Tech replies looking to Jenny for his orders.
“I
want you to tell the others that we are now allies with the Keebler Revolution.
Tell them they can have the rest of the night off and if any of them don’t
agree with me, have them come see me. As for you, I would like you to come back
here after you have told everyone for further orders.” Jenny says to Tech. He
rises from his chair giving a nod and beginning to walk towards the door, which
is behind Jenny. But before he can slip out the door, Jenny stops him.
“And
please get a hold of Lane or somebody on the Particus. I need to talk to one of
them. Preferably Lane.” Jenny says turning around to look towards Tech, who
stands about two feet from the door. Tech nods once more then disappears.
Once
Tech is out of sight, Jenny turns around to face back towards the now empty
chair. But the chair is no longer empty. A tall blonde male wearing reflective
sunglasses fills it.
“Oh
back so soon?” Jenny asks sarcastically.
“I
heard you wanted to talk to me.” Lane says making Jenny feel a little
uncomfortable.
“Did
you read my mind or did Tech tell you?” Jenny questions Lane.
“A
little of both.” Lane says with a smile that makes Jenny want to be nice to
him.
“Okay
so I did want to see you.” Jenny says looking straight into Lane’s
reflective sunglasses.
“You
wanted to see me? Now that’s a first and probably a last.” Lane says with a
smile.
Jenny
smirks at Lane. “Are you going to shut up or am I going to leave and change my
mind?” Jenny asks being totally serious but not mean.
“I’ll
shut up.” Lane says also being totally serious but not mean.
“Okay.
Remember what you said earlier before you left?” Jenny asks. Lane nods and
Jenny continues. “Well after you left I couldn’t stop thinking about what
you said about standing for the same thing. Finally, I realized you were right.
We do stand for the same thing. So I made a decision.”
Lane
looks into Jenny’s intense green eyes through his reflective sunglasses and
says, “You have very pretty eyes.”
“What?”
Jenny asks calmly but a little surprised. She blushes at Lane’s compliment.
“Sorry.
I don’t know what got into me. Anyways, what decision is that?” Lane says
shaking his head to clear his mind. Jenny
looks over at Lane and something comes over her. The feeling you get when you
are close to a crush. She blushes.
“Anyway,”
Jenny says bringing the conversation back to her decision, “I’ve decided
that the Kebb Squad will become allies with the Revolutionists. I know my squad
will not be very happy. I know that I’m not too fond of the idea either. But
like you said we are working for the same thing, a universe without the
oppression of the Dark Master. Better together then in each other’s way.”
Jenny says unconsciously fiddling with the bracelet on her right wrist.
“I’m
glad you came to that conclusion. I know it’s the right one. Now maybe you can
convince the Sciences, Peace Force, and Magicks to see that we Revolutionists
aren’t as bad as they thought.” Lane says taking Jenny’s right hand into
his to stop her from fiddling with her bracelet. Jenny and Lane both lean in a
little. Jenny looks straight into Lane’s reflective sunglasses, wishing she
could see his pretty blue-gray eyes and Lane looks into her green eyes. All the
sudden the door burst opens and Zubinmata storms in. They both look towards the
door then back at each other both knowing that if Zubinmata hadn’t burst in
something would have happened.
“I
gotta go. I’ll keep in touch.” Lane says giving Jenny once last look. He
kisses her hand and teleports. Why does he
have to do that? Jenny thinks to herself, then she turns towards the mad
Zubinmata pushing Lane from her mind.
“Jenny,
what do you think your doing?” Zubinmata yells stalking over to the table
where Jenny sits. Some people look towards Zubinmata but turn away not really
giving a care. Zubinmata sits down across from Jenny in the chair Lane had just
been sitting in only moments ago. Jenny just looks at Zubinmata already knowing
what she’s mad about.
“Join
forces with the revolutionist? You’ve got to be crazy.” Zubinmata says a
little to loudly.
“Quiet!
You’ll attract unwanted attention.” Jenny says to Zubinmata as her left hand
returns to fiddling with the bracelets on her right wrist. “I am not crazy. I
know what I’m doing.”
“How
can I be sure that you haven’t been conversing with Gure instead of the real
Lane? How can I be sure that Lane hasn’t brainwashed you?” Zubinmata asks
getting angrier by the minute.
“You
can’t! But I know I haven’t been talking with Gure. I was talking with the
real Lane. I’m sure of it. Even though most of the revolutionists may have
different ideas then we do, we are still fighting the same thing. It’s better
to be together then in each other’s way.” Jenny strongly says to Zubinmata.
“You
are crazy. You are really crazy.” Zubinmata says not willing to go along with
her leader.
“Fine!
If you think I’m crazy then maybe you should quit the Kebb Squad and go join
the Sciences, Peace Force, or Magicks. After all they are all enemies of the
Revolutionists. But sooner or later we’ll all be on the same side. We are all
fighting the same thing. The Sciences, Peace Force, and Magicks will have to
realize it someday just like I did. I just happen to be the first one but the
others will follow. The Kebb Squad are allies with the Keebler Revolutionists
whether you like it or not.” Jenny shouts at Zubinmata.
“Fine!
I’m leaving the Kebb Squad. I can’t stand to be in the group any longer if
we are allies with the revolutionists. I think you are making a big mistake, a
very big mistake. You can’t trust the revolutionists.” Zubinmata says
jumping up from her seat. “We can trust them. They are just like us.” Jenny
yells at Zubinmata. Zubinmata shakes her head then stalks back out the door,
almost running into Tech on her way out. Tech walks over to Jenny’s table and
sits down.
“I
want you to get a hold of the leaders of the Sciences, Peace Force, and Magicks.
Tell them we need to have a conference as soon as possible.”
Tech
nods then asks, “What about Zubinmata?”
“Forget
about her. She’ll realize sooner or later that this is the way it has to be.
Lane is right and she knows it. She’s just afraid to admit it. She’ll be
back. I promise.” Jenny replies looking off into the dance club and thinking
about Lane. Tech rises and leaves Jenny alone once again.
When can I have a night off? Just to be
alone and not have to work? Jenny
asks herself and someone replies
inside her head. When the Dark Master is
defeated we will celebrate. And take our long awaited vacations. Lane tells
Jenny by using his psychic powers to get into her head. How will I ever convince the Sciences, Peace Force, and Magicks that
Lane is right? Jenny questions herself and once more someone answers.
I will help. Just call on me and I will help. Lane speaks in Jenny’s head.
Jenny nods to herself and smiles.
The
DJ puts on Jenny’s favorite song. She stands up and makes her way out onto the
dance floor and begins to dance all the while trying to think of a way to
convince the Sciences, Peace Force, and Magicks to join the Kebb Squad and
become allies with the Revolutionists.
I wrote this after Lane sent me the first part in an email. This
is my first Keebler story. I loved writing this one so much that I now have a
fat collection of them. I loved the writing this one and the whole collection.
