"If it could be"

I see you standing there
And realize that it can never be.

But oh if it could be.

If it could be
We’d discuss books.
Philosphy, Shakespeare,
Dickens, Fitzgerald.

We’d discuss movies and poems.
Chicago, Frida, Bowling for Columbine
C.K. Williams, Dickinson, W.C. Williams

We’d be powerful.
We’d fight and protest.
“Make love not war!”

We’d be passionate
about our protests and debates
about our music and opinions
about our relationship and lives.

We’d wear what we choose.
We’d break rules that were unfair.
We’d do what we thought to be right.

We’d spend our days at protests against war
we would be hippies of new.

We’d spend our evenings at coffeehouses and poetry readings
drinking coffee and reading our own.

We’d spend our early nights at an independent film
sitting close and whispering our comments.

We’d spend our late nights talking
discussing important points and sharing our passion.

If it could be
It would be an experience.

If it could be
It would be exhilarating.

If it could be
It would be passionate.

It would be passionate

Like we are with the important things.

It would be an important thing
And it would be passionate.

If it could be.
Oh if it could be.

It would be.
Oh if it would be.

Oh if it could be.
