ANARCHY
Introduction by Lane Carman
“What are we doing here?”
Zubinmata growled angrily. “There are much better things I could be doing.”
“Hush,” Jenny said to her friend. Zubinmata rolled her eyes, but
stayed silent. “Go on.”
Peter nodded. “As you are all aware, we are trapped on Earth.”
“What?” Zubinmata asked. “What do you mean ‘we’?”
“The Keeblers, Corporates, Magicks,
Sciences, Dark Warriors, City-State of Tresiar, you Kebb Squad, and the
Endalls are all stuck here together on Earth, not to mention the Omega
Operatives, Powers, and the Ravagers, whatever the hell they are.” Jenny shuddered.
The last time she had seen the Endalls, she had barely
escaped with her life. “Why are we all stuck together?”
It was Dane’s turn to talk. “The Endalls used some strange power to
keep everyone on Earth in and everyone not out.”
“Did you watch the news today?” Shane added. “A spaceship exploded
while exiting Earth’s atmosphere. Whatever those demons did, it is very
physical.”
Jenny nodded grimly. “This is serious,” Zubinmata added. “What are
we going to do?”
Lane looked at Peter and nodded. “What we need to do,” Peter said,
“is team up.”
Zubinmata’s face contorted with anger. She stopped, took a deep breath,
and looked at Jenny. “It’s your call, boss. You know my opinion of the
Keeblers, but if you say so, I’ll go along.”
“What do you say, Jenny?” Lane asked. “We’ve located one of the
Endalls in the Amazon Rainforest; Anarchy, I think. Will you help us?”
Jenny zones out. Visions of her past experiences with the
Endalls fill
her mind. “No. I’m sorry but I don’t want my Kebb Squad to get involved in
this.” Jenny says almost mechanically. She turns around and walks away.
“Huh. Weird. She’s always willing to work together with you revolutionists. Maybe I’m rubbing off on her.” Zubinmata says with a smile. “Come on Electra. We’ve got better stuff to do then hang around with the revolutionists. Let’s get back to the base.”
“Jenny looked disturbed. Shouldn’t we see if she’s okay?” Electra
asks catching up with Zubinmata.
“She seemed fine to me.” Zubinmata says. Electra shrugs and the two
girls head for the Kebb Squad base.
“Well looks like we’re going to have to find some new allies or
forget allies altogether seeing as the Kebb Squad’s the only one who sort of
like us.” Peter says looking around at the other revolutionists.
“Hey Lane, where to next?” Dane asks looking over at his friend.
“Lane?” But Lane’s mind is
off in a totally different place. “Hey Lane snap out of it.”
“Huh? Oh sorry. I was spacing. Anyways, I can’t really think of
anyone else who would want to be allies with us. No body else really likes us.
In fact most the Kebb Squad still doesn’t like us. I guess all we can do is
head back to our earth base.” Lane
says his mind returning to his friends.
“Okay if you say so.” Shane says and Peter, Dane, and Shane begin to
head for their warehouse base on foot. But Lane’s feet stay glued in his spot.
“Hey Lane are you coming?” Peter asks looking back to find Lane
standing in the same spot.
“Yeah. Go ahead I’ve got some stuff to take care of first. I’ll
just meet you there later.” Lane replies looking over at Peter.
“Okay we’ll see you when we see you.” Peter
replies shrugging and he, Shane, and Dane continue on their way. Lane watches
them walk a way then he runs after Jenny. He finds her sitting on a rock with
her head in her hands. Lane walks over and sits down next to her. Jenny hears
him and looks up at him.
“Jenny are you okay?” Lane asks. Jenny blinks and
tears fall from her eyes. She looks down and stares at her feet. “Jenny
what’s wrong?”
Jenny wipes the tears out of her eyes and takes a
deep breath. “I want to help but …” She stops suddenly.
“ But what?”
Jenny takes another deep breath and swallows. “I
hate to say it but I’m afraid of the Endalls. After what happened the last
time and so many time before, I shudder and freak every time I hear the name
Endalls.” Jenny says fidgeting.
“What happened, Jenny?” Lane questions removing
his reflective sunglasses and putting them in his pocket. His full attention on
Jenny.
It takes a few minutes and many deep breaths before
Jenny starts her story. “When I was about 10, the Endalls attacked my town. My
neighborhood was the target or should I say my house. I wasn’t home yet from
school because I stay after to play with some friends. I was walking home all by
myself, you know believing that life was easy and that family was the most
important thing in the world. Well as I neared my neighborhood it hit. A giant
explosion. I watched it as it hit and exploded. I was shocked and scared at the
same time. I didn’t move from my spot. Tears hit and didn’t stop.
“After
about five minutes, I rushed into the death and destruction to see if anyone was
alive. I didn’t find anyone. As I neared my block, I noticed that my best
friends house, she lived next door, was in shambles and barely standing. As I
spied my house I stopped dead in my tracks and screamed. “There was nothing
left of my house but dust. I fell to the ground and cried. I cried till I was
shaking and could cry no more.
“The
leader of the Kebb Squad before me, found me. They were the first to arrive on
the scene. Gypsy took me in and gave me a room at the Kebb Squad base. As I
grew, I learned a lot about the Kebb Squad and became a good squad member. One
of the best is what Gypsy always told me. Right before she died she appointed me
the next Kebb Squad leader. “
She died in another attack by the Endalls. They
always seem to attack were I’m at. She died and I took her place.
“There have been attacks by the Endalls everywhere
I go. It’s like they know something I don’t. Like the future.
“Anyway the last one I ended up in, I barely
escaped with my life. Most of the time I’ve barely escaped with my life.”
Jenny stops for a minute as the scary memories flood her head. She takes a deep
breath then continues.
“The
last attack was September 11, 2001 on the World Trade Center. I was there for a
meeting with a friend. We were in the second tower hit. Oliver and I were
standing near Oliver’s desk. I had just reached his desk and we had just
shared a hug. I looked out the window to admire the view and the plane hit the
first tower. I screamed and Oliver came up behind me. He saw what had happened
and pulled me close. Everyone looked over and some of them rushed over to the
window to see what I had screamed about. Oliver took my hand and held it tight.
I backed up not believing what I had seen forcing Oliver to back up as well.
“I was frozen for minutes. He stood there with me
looking out the window as I stood in his arms. When the second plane hit I went
crazy. It was like a gigantic earthquake. I fell to the ground and Oliver helped
me up. He told me that we had to get out of the building. I was so scared. I
didn’t know what to do. He grasped my hand harder and helped me to the stairs.
We climbed down the stairs as fast as we could, dodging people and parts of the
building.
“Oliver
didn’t make it out of the building. He was hit with a giant piece of falling
ceiling. It barely missed me. I remember his last words. He told me, ‘Get out
of the building quick. Don’t give up no matter what. You are strong and I know
you can do it. Get out of the building Jen! And remember I will always love
you.’ ” Jenny stops and cries for a few minutes. Lane doesn’t speak; he
just comforts her.
After a few minutes, Jenny continues, “I said my
goodbye quickly telling him that I loved him and will always remember him. I
kissed his cheek then I rushed out of the building as fast as I could. When I
was about a mile or so away from the building, it fell and I had to continue
running. I didn’t stop crying at all that day. I also didn’t sleep for three
days. It was horrible Lane. All of it is. I don’t know what I ever did to them
to make them want to kill me. I don’t know why I have to be put through all
this pain and strife.” Jenny finally stops not being able to talk between the
tears and sobs. Lane is shocked to find out Jenny’s past. Lane takes Jenny
into his arms, in a friendly hug, and lets her cry on his shoulder.
Finally Jenny stops crying. She hugs Lane then pulls
away. “Thanks.” Jenny says in a small voice. Her eyes are puffy and red from
crying and her voice is small. She takes a deep breath in and breathes it out.
“I’m really sorry Jenny.” Lane says breaking
the silence. He looks over at Jenny. “Are you going to be okay?”
“Yes. It’s just that I haven’t told anyone
about the last encounter. I didn’t tell anyone where I was going. And when I
got back I acted as if nothing had happened. I’ve pushed the memories from my
head. But when I started telling you about my encounters with the Endalls they
all flooded back. Oliver was my best friend. We had known each other since
before I became leader of the Kebb Squad. We were so close. It hurt so badly to
leave him there. Especially since I had feelings for him. We were closer then
friends.
“Lane, I loved him! It hurt so bad to lose him. I
cried a lot at night and didn’t get much sleep or much work down during the
day. All I could think of was Oliver. I was really quiet, not talking more then
I had to. I was quiet towards everyone but most didn’t notice. Zubinmata did
though. I didn’t want to tell her the truth so I lied. I told her that I
hadn’t been getting much sleep and was a little tired which was true. She
believed it and, in time, I returned to my normal self.
“Well as normal as I could be without Oliver. I
didn’t want to talk, think, or even remember September 11th. The
Endalls killed all those people just to get to me. And they killed the one I
loved. Maybe I should just give up and let them kill me. I don’t want innocent
people to die because they want me died. I especially don’t want someone else
close to me to die like Gypsy and Oliver.” Jenny says strongly.
“Don’t even think about it.” Lane says
strictly. Jenny looks over at him. “We can destroy them before they destroy
you. If the Kebb Squad and Keebler Revolutionists work together, we can track
down those damn Endalls and give then a taste of what you’ve had to go though.
Give them a taste of your pain.”
Jenny looks away. “I don’t know. I’m putting
you and everyone else in danger though. I don’t want anyone to die because of
me.”
“Come on, Jenny, it’s okay. We can take care of
ourselves. If the Endalls attack, we’ll attack back. And I promise to take out
any and all Endalls that come near you. I don’t want one of my best friends,
and leader of the only group who would think about being allies with the
revolutionists, to die.” Lane says smiling over at Jenny.
Jenny looks over at him and asks, “Really?” Lane
nods.
Jenny takes a few minutes to think and finally she
answers. “Fine I’ll do it. The Kebb Squad will help the revolutionists get
those damn Endalls!”
This was a Christmas and birthday
present from Lane that was never really finished or continued but I still
enjoyed writing it and it has brought about the rest of my story Keebler
collection to come about.
