Tara's 15" PowerBook G4 Fund

Hello and welcome to Tara's 15" PowerBook G4 fund page!

This fund was started on January 12th, 2004 by Tara's boyfriend Seth, as a one year anniversary present, and as a means to help Tara save up for her first Mac, a 15" PowerBook G4. If you'd like to, you can contact Tara at Taras_powerbook_fund@yahoo.com.

UPDATE (7-17-04): Apple has announced a new promotion for students, called Cram and Jam. To get the promotion, you buy a PowerBook and an iPod (both at the discounted Student pricing), and you get a $200 rebate check back. To visit the Cram and Jam page, click here.

To Tara's family:

Tara would like very much to have this computer for her Fall 2004 semester at Yuba Community College. Donations are needed to accomplish this! Tara has been working hard as a cashier at Ace Hardware, but fears that she will not have enough money to pay for the many costs of college. Any donation is very much appreciated.

So Why a PowerBook?

Tara currently has no computer of her own. As most people know, a computer is essential to any students success. Currently, Tara is using her father's Dell Dimension desktop; normally, this would be a perfectly acceptable computer for a student to use, but a few problems have arisen. One, Tara and her dad typically need to use the Dell at the same time of day: Tara gets back from school at 5pm, and her dad gets off work at 5pm. Two, Tara will be moving out of her dad's house soon when she transfers to a 4 year university. A second computer would solve both of these problems very, very easily. Furthermore, a laptop is a student's friend, since it is so portable. Tara will be moving around a lot, taking her PowerBook to class, the library, and whereever else she needs to: a feat completely impossible with a desktop.

The PowerBook

The 15" PowerBook is the "middle child" of the 12", 15", and 17" Apple PowerBook family. For more detailed info, please visit this 15" PowerBook G4 site. Below are the specifications of the PowerBook Tara wants to save up for.

Image
• 1.33GHz PowerPC G4
• 256MB DDR333 SDRAM - 1 SO-DIMM (Tara can add more later).
• 80GB Ultra ATA Hard drive @ 4200 rpm
• Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
• Backlit Keyboard (It glows in the dark!)
• AirPort Extreme Card (For wireless internet access on campus)
• 15.2-inch TFT Display

Final Cost, after rebates: approximately $2,000.00 (includes iPod cost in the Cram and Jam promotion).

How we plan on accomplishing our goal:

This fund by no means is meant to give Tara a free PowerBook. Tara will be working part time during school and full time during the summer to help save up for this computer. This fund is only meant to supplement her efforts. Tara plans on 1) working hard, 2) taking out a Apple Loan for Education, and 3) receiving a little help from her family to get this computer. The PowerBook, with a student discount, will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,000.00 (after all rebates and discounts).

How To Donate

If you know Tara personally (if you're family or a close friend) you can send Tara a check to her home address (dad's or mom's house), or you can contact us at Taras_powerbook_fund@yahoo.com. If you just ran across this site, you can donate using the PayPal link below.
Any donation is appreciated! Be it one dollar or ten, 100% of all money accumulated through this fund will go towards Tara's PowerBook, and nothing else.
