Long Beach Toyota Grand Prix
April 11, 12 & 13, 2003

Parents: Please sign up to work at the Grand Prix if you haven't already done so, and enlist your friends and neighbors, as well! As of March 11, we are close to the numbers we need for Saturday, but we still need lots of volunteers for Friday and Sunday (students may work only on the weekend).

There will be a Parent Volunteer Meeting at Mission Viejo High School on
Monday, April 7 at 7 PM.

Description of Event
This is a MAJOR fund raiser for our program. For three days in April, we provide as many parents, friends, relatives, neighbors and students as we can to work as volunteers at the Toyota Grand Prix CART race in Long Beach.

This nationally covered sports event is an attraction for some of the world's greatest drivers and thousands of auto racing fans. Volunteers spend a full day working in the concession stands, which are located right alongside the race track.

ALL families are requested to volunteer for this event, which raises between $5,000-6,000 for our music programs. The more volunteers we have, the more money we earn!

It takes the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach 9 weeks to put up and take down the race facility - it's a "city-within-a-city." About 100,000 spectators attend the event over the three days. There are 21 large spectator grandstands which seat more than 63,000 people. There are seven pedestrian bridges, 12 television/photo towers, 11 giant vision boards for full-circuit TV coverage for those in the grandsstands, more than 30 hospitality tents, and more than 60 VIP viewing suites.

The street circuit is a 1.97 mile, 11-turn ribbon of pavement that winds around the Long Beach Convention Center, along Shoreline Drive past the Aquarium of the Pacific and under the windows of the Hyatt Hotel.
