The Price of Beauty
By:Lisa Baker

How can one want to sacrifice,
Their health and well being,
Just to wear a crown on their head?

To be honored,
Not for an achievement of self,
But for the beauty on the outside.

Don't they realize,
That if they could only look deeper,
They would find this wonderful world of knowledge?

People would begin to see them as who they are,
See what they have to offer as a human-being,
And not just an object to stare at.

Humans are not caged animals,
They shouldn't be showcased in that way.
We have so much more to offer.

Beauty is only skin deep,
Who one truly is is in their soul.
Look deep within and they will find their real self.

The price of beauty is too much.
The size zero gowns,
The daily rehearsals.

Why don't they ask themselves,
Before joining the thousands of others,
What is this all for?

Just some sort of recognition?
They shouldn't need the approval of others,
They should have enough self-confidence in who they are.

Believe in who you are,
Not what the general consensus thinks you to be.
And you won't have to pay the price of beauty.
