Business Case Study for Group One

Brenda works as part of the administration team at a large hospital in a large city. She has worked there for three years. She moved to that city to take that particular job. She is divorced and is raising 2 little sons by herself. She belongs to several professional organizations for hospital administrators and is well thought of.

One of the men at the hospital, who is at a level above her, has been sexually harassing her since her first day. He makes sexually explicit compliments and comments to her in front of others and when she is alone. He keeps asking her to go out. She has refused, has reported him to the head managers, and has spoken to him firmly. He continues to make comments which embarrass her but has not touched her and has not threatened her job. She has learned to just live with the situation - he is obnoxious but nothing to worry about. Other women in the company have told her he does it to them also, they have reported it to management and just try to ignore him but hate the situation. This week one of the newer women could not handle the situation any longer. She went to management, quit her position, and told them she is filing a suit for sexual harassment. Management has, in a very low-key but firm way, spread the word about the suit, and said that all the employees must stick together and be supportive of the hospital especially in light of such unprofessional and unfounded accusations.

Brenda received a call last night from the attorney of the woman bringing the suit. She said she is calling all the women who work with the man in question at the hospital to see if they can substantiate the woman's accusations and if they themselves were ever harassed by the man.

What are Brenda's choices, and what do you think she should do?
