Business Case Study for Group Four

You are the Human Resources Manager for a pineapple plant in Hawaii. You have been assigned to hire an assistant for the President of the company. This person will perform some secretarial duties, but will mainly organize the President's time and activities, make all his travel arrangements, act as a liaison between the managers and the President, and occasionally travel with the President to oversee arrangements for meetings with groups of sales people.

You have three applicants who have very similar qualifications (you never have applicants who have exactly the same qualifications). The President has interviewed all three candidates and feels he would be happy working with any of them and has left the hiring decision in your capable hands.

All the applicants are recent college grads with communication majors and have a cumulative grade point between 3.4 and 3.6. All have extensive computer experience and are proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office. All have excellent letters of recommendation and have served a summer internship doing administrative assistant work. All were active in some social and professional organizations in college. All had good interviews - and were personable and well spoken. From everything that has been checked or questioned, all three would do the job quite well.

Who would you hire, and why?
