Schizophrenia

Lifeless eyes
And heavy breath
She sits alone
She tries to rest
Body slow
But mind chaotic
I call it sad
They say “psychotic”
Cruel and angry
Feeding her lies
The voices dwell
Throughout her mind
Doctors call
Her stories delusions
I know she’s lost
In scared confusion
She can’t run from herself
And there’s nowhere to hide
All she knows to believe
Is what comes from inside
Last week she knew me
This morning she asked
Who I was
And where she was at.
The tone of her voice
Changed from wondering to scared
And her eyes left my own
As she stopped and just stared
It’s frightening to think
Of what she’s become
Of the demons that haunted
The woman she was
Some call her hopeless
Say she’s already died
But I still believe
She’s somewhere inside
Lifeless eyes
And heavy breath
She sits alone
She tries to rest
But rest won’t come
She can’t escape
The madness
That she’s learned to hate.
