Gene
Markley
-- Born in Berea, Ohio, Gene started playing trumpet in 4th grade in a
3-room grade school. In high school he played in band, sang in the chorus,
and had his own dance band. He also played in Berea's Baldwin Wallace
College marching band while in high school.
He then went to Wooster College for two years before enlisting in the Air
Force for 18 months. He was placed in a band whose primary work was radio,
stage and dance jobs, essentially living the life of the Big Bands playing
up and down the West Coast. After discharge, he returned to Wooster,
graduating with a BA deg. in economics. The college band, symphony orch.,
dance bands and performing in dramatics took most of his spare time.
Gene worked for The Dow Chemical Co. for 34 years starting in purchasing but
spending most of his time in all phases of Employee Relations. Dance bands
and Little Theater remained his avocations the whole time but he managed to
get an MBA in Industrial Mgt. going to night school.
After retirement he and his wife moved to Lago Vista, TX, where he has been
active in church & civic affairs. Dance bands, choirs and golf are his
prime retirement activities. He has 3 children and 1 grandchild.
