Viruses
What is a Virus?
A virus is a program or a piece of code that is loaded onto your computer without your knowledge and runs against your
wishes. Viruses can also replicate themselves. All computer viruses are manmade. A simple virus that can make a copy of
itself over and over again is relatively easy to produce. Even such a simple virus is dangerous because it will
quickly use all available memory and bring the system to a halt. An even more dangerous type of virus is one
capable of transmitting itself across networks and bypassing security systems
Types of viruses
Most of the viruses out there today are quite harmless, and they are only out there to annoy people. But some hackers create
very dangerous viruses that can infect your computer and not allow you to delete. Some viruses restart your computer randomly
and this can delete any of your unsaved work, which is a major threat to a business. Some viruses even stop your anti-virus
applications from working so you cannot even detect them. When you get these viruses, your last resort is to re-format your
computer.
How do you eliminate viruses?
Eliminating most viruses is quite easy since many businesses around the world are dedicated to this cause. Popular anti-virus
gurus; such as Norton and McAfee make millions of dollars per year because viruses infect all computers and PCs, and their porgrams help remove them.
First you need to purchase an anti-virus program from your local store and from there it is quite easy. You MUST update your virus definitions
weekly or whenever required, so that your anti-virus program is up-to-date and effective. After all this is done, you can run
any type of system scan and delete all the infected files that are found. McAfee has a very sueful utility, which is called a stinger, and it is free to download
and it detects and eliminates certain harmful viruses.
