"Coral" is a very rare mare indeed. Not only is she uncommon here in the States and of a breed of a small number, she is a one-of-a-kind color yet to be seen in the breed. As Orlov Trotters are typically grey, it was unknown that they carried the dilute gene. Her sire was a bay, which helped the odds that she wouldn't be grey like so many of her relatives, and her dam was a grey mare from both a grey sire and a grey dam. They are currently researching to see where she got the dilute gene from, but since a majority of her dam's side (the only place she could have inherited it from) is grey, the possibilities are quite numerous!

In the mean time, we enjoy having bragging rights on such a splendid individual. She has an INCREDIBLE trot, naturally, as she was originally trained to race alongside today's Standardbreds. For those who are unaware, the Orlov Trotter helped influence the Standardbred breed. Her flashy color would have made her a favorite (and still would! She's not that old at the age of 8!), but we did not have a trotting-race program. Instead, she's been more of a pleasure ride and has been started lightly in dressage. Her desire to TROT, TROT, TROT is strong, though. Unless you intend to spend a lot of time retraining her for dressage, she will never be one of the best. She would, however, make an excellent broodmare for Orlov Trotters or Standardbreds.

She was imported from Russia at a young age; she was bred on a well-known stud farm there. Her name means "swaying" in Russian, most likely from the movement of her natural pacing. However, she was sold to us under the English name, "Golden Desire".

Her sire, FLIPER, is by the breed's "most influential sire", PION. On her dam's side, her grandsire POSTUPOK and her great-grandsire KULON are considered to be 5 of the best Orlov stallions currently standing for stud for producing successful trotting times. Also, her great-granddam, KUPAVKA, produced a son, KOLORIT, who is among these top 5 stallions. As you can see, "Coral" is very royally bred!
