In groups, students will research and discuss the following questions:
What is a tsunami?
How is a tsunami caused?
Can they be prevented?
Research the DART buoy.
Research new ways of studying tsunami's in an effort to predict them.
Find pictures of tsunami waves or destruction.
Find recent tsunami events (dates and locations on the map).
What are the five U.S. states that receive the most attention when it comes to tsunami's?
Refer to google map and find locations where tsunami's have occurred.
Watch a few You Tube videos of tsunami footage.
Discuss recent events like the February Chilean earthquake/tsunami event and research what countries were at risk for a tsunami.
