Dublin

Places to Visit in Ireland

(1) Dublin

Dublin is the Country's capital, and largest city. It is Ireland's political centre and our houses of parliament are here - Dail Eireann - The House(pronounced dall erin) and Seanad Eireann - The Senate (pronounced shan ad erin).

Places to visit in Dublin include Dail Eireann,(left) The National Art Gallery, next door. The Guinness Breweries, National Waxwork Museum, St Stephen's Green Park, The Book of Kells in Trinity College Dublin, Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin Viking Adventure Dublin Writers Museum, Parnell Square, Dublin Zoo, Phoenix Park, James Joyce Tower Museum, Sandycove

The best way to get from Dublin City Centre to her suberbs such as Killiney and Dun Laoghaire (pronounced done leary) is by Dart (Dublin Area Rapid Transit). (left) This is a rail system which runs along Dublin Bay. It's the best way to take in the East Coast of Dublin, and stops in towns like Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire, Bray and service across the city centre. Make sure to take in Killiney Bay - likened to the Bay of Naples(right). Dublin is currently in the process of installing a new Light Rail System called LUAS which will be partly underground and partly tram and will make travelling inside the city centre easier.

There are always loads of gigs happening in Dublin. The Main Concert Venues are The Point Depot and RDS. Although larger sport arenas such as Lansdowne road hold concerts sometimes. There's an annual concert at Slane Castle where the likes of U2 and REM have played. Check the Ticket Master Website for the latest listings http://www.ticketmaster.ie"

I’m a Dubliner and so I’d advise a visit to the city. But I’d recommend seeing the rest of Ireland too, because although Dublin is a vibrant city it is also becoming very expensive.

Expect to pay at least €25 a head for a four course meal with wine. A pint of lager will set you back €4, Guinness anywhere from €3.50 - €3.80. Taxis can be expensive too, so if you’re travelling around Dublin after the last bus after 11:30 or so, the Nitelink is a lifesaver. There are coaches which service the airport. See the Dublin Bus Website at www.dublinbus.ie for details.
