Message from Coach Steve Dolan:

Both men's and women's Cross Country teams are off to a great start for the 2003 season. Below are the press releases from the first two meets and photos of the teams.

We hope you can spend the day with us for homecoming on November 1. You are also welcome to participate in the NJAC Open 5k race starting at 12:00 noon. The alumni plan to regroup back on campus starting at noon; there will be two tents with food and beverages specifically for t&f/xc alumni.

Message from Assistant Coach Tim Collins:

Dear Track & Field/Cross Country Alumni,

Greetings from your old stomping grounds. As we start what we hope to be yet another successful fall, winter and spring campaign, we are also looking back to celebrate the accomplishments of the recent past. Last year was no exception to the steady stream of successful cross country and track & field seasons which have been led so well by Head Coach Steve Dolan.

In the 11 years that Steve has been with the college, he has won the men’s and women’s NJAC Conference meets in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track every year for the past 6 years, he has been named NCAA Regional Coach of the year 7 times and he has coached over 40 All-Americans including 3 individual National Champions. Last year the men’s cross country team finished 9th in the nation and were led by All-American Nick Ricco. The women’s cross country team finished 11th at the National meet and was led by All-American Sarah Spilman. During the Indoor season, six men and women achieved All-American status and at the outdoor meet, 11 men and women achieved All-American status highlighted by senior Nick Ricco’s National Championship in the 5,000 meters and freshman Tiffany Clark’s runner up in both the 400 and 4x400. In recognition of his outstanding efforts in leading both the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field teams, The College of New Jersey has named Steve their Coach of the year. Coach Dolan will be honored at half-time of the TCNJ vs LaSalle football game on Friday, September 19th. His wife and kids as well as members of the current track and cross country team will be there to celebrate this achievement. I would like to extend an invitation for you to join us that night to celebrate both Steve and the program’s success. The next day we travel to Van Cortland Park in New York City for our second cross country meet of the season. We hope to see you either that night or some other time during the season (especially the Homecoming Weekend – NJAC XC Conference meet hosted at Washington Crossing Park on November 1st).

Once again, best wishes for you and your family this fall season.

Sincerely,
Tim Collins

Message from Coach Steve Dolan:

Dear Alumni,

I hope you have had an enjoyable summer. For the current Lions, the summer is over and another school year has begun. As alumni, you are an important part of the tradition of excellence that we strive to maintain. I hope you enjoy following the team and I look forward to seeing you at some of the events this year.

As you may know, both our men’s and women’s track and field teams completed another successful year. The TCNJ men and women earned 26 All-American citations at the NCAA 2003 Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Highlights for the men included a fifth place team finish at the Indoor NCAA’s and Nick Ricco’s national championship run in the 5000 meters at the Outdoor NCAA’s. The TCNJ women finished eleventh at the Outdoor NCAA’s lead by Lindsay Scarborough’s third place run in the steeplechase, Tiffany Clark’s runner-up finish in the 400 meter run and a runner-up performance from the 4 x 400 team.
