Kam Lam XC Update and Homecoming Reminder: The College of New Jersey men's & women's cross country teams raced admirably at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. On the men's side, Brian Donovan finished the 8,000m course in 24:49 for a 26th place finish overall. The women's team was the first Div. III school in the meet (6,000m), led by junior Jenna Fasulo. The Lion women are currently ranked 15th in the country for Div. III Schools, while the men are ranked 10th. Also, a reminder that Homecoming is Saturday, October 16th. Once again it should be a good time! Hope you can join us for the festivities. We'll send more details at a later date. Phil Jennings Asst. Mainly a Division I competition, TCNJ also competed in a mix of Division II and III programs. There were two sets of scoring at the race. One was just scoring among the Division I schools and the other was among the Division II/III programs. The Lion men team, which is currently ranked 10th in Division III, came in third behind ninth-ranked Haverford College and Division II Shippensburg University. The 15th ranked womens squad took first. Womens Highlights Junior Jenna Fasulo (Berlin, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was TCNJs top runner as she took sixth in 23:04.5. Junior Sarah Spilman (Long Valley, NJ/W. Morris Central) placed 10th in 23:30.8, while freshman Julie Ullmeyer (W. Long Branch, NJ/Shore Reg.) picked up 14th in 23:45.3. Rookie Sara Best (High Bridge, NJ/Voorhees) came in 17th in 23:48.8 and junior Kara Horner (Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) was 18th in 23:50.6. Mens Highlights Senior Brian Donovan (E. Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick) finished in second place after running 24:49.7, the fastest time ever by a Lion at the Paul Short Invitational. Senior Joe Lacovara-Switzer (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) finished 14th in 25:57.7, while senior Matt Molski (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) took third in 26:06.1. Freshman Brian Kopnicki (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) was 22nd in 26:13.2 and junior Matt Randal (Dayton, NJ/S. Brunswick) took 36th in 26:34.0.
Head Coaching Position at TCNJ Update: Although this is now kinda old news I thought I'd post it anyway for those of you not in the loop. This is from Dan Magee: FYI: A very good friend of mine is a finalist for the head coaching job at TCNJ. His name is Joe Klim. He was a decathlete in college at Elmhurst in Illinois (I think he made nationals twice). He coached XC and track at Emory for three years, and has been the No. 1 asst. at Bucknell for the last eight for XC and track. Metzie can attest that Bucknell is a big-time XC & track program. He's a strong recruiter, has recruited NJ athletes before, knows every track event, and even better, has a lot of energy, enthusiasm and a sense of humor, meaning he would have no problem bringing back old school traditions like dogpiles, Freshmen King of the Mountain, the ___ 100's, etc. He would also be very, very supportive of XC & track alumni functions. Bucknell has a very active and involved alumni group, and they race together a lot, donate money to the teams, etc. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I'm writing a letter of recommendation to Kevin McHugh, the TCNJ A.D. Dan TSC-TCNJ Cross Country & Track Alumni:
