"
I’m like, nervous," Mira laughed throwing her backpack over her shoulder as her and Taylor filed out of the plane into the Tulsa airport."Zac’s gonna freak out," Taylor smiled as he spotted his father in the waiting crowd. "Hey Dad," he called out.
"Hey," his Dad smiled giving Taylor a big hug. "Mira," Walker said moving on to give her a hug. "It’s good to see you again. We’ve missed you."
"I’ve missed you guys too," she said happily. "I haven’t seen you guys in like, 3 and a half years."
"I know. So how was school?" Walker asked as they all made their way to baggage claim.
"Good," Mira smiled.
"Eh," Taylor said uncertainly. "Finals were finals."
"Yeahhh," Zac called out bounding out of the house towards the car.
"Yeahhh," Mira mocked him hopping out of the backseat of the van. Her and Zac collided in a hug on the driveway as he rocked her side to side.
"Oh my God," Zac cried. "How you’ve grown."
Mira laughed releasing him from the hug. "What are you now, like 28?"
"29," he smiled. "But thanks." Zac was huge - taller than Taylor. At the ripe old age of 16 he still had the longest hair of the three brothers, reaching his shoulders in thick blonde waves. His tanned body looked good in his white t-shirt and navy blue board shorts.
"Brother’s don’t shake hands" Zac cried opening his arms to hug Taylor.
"Brother’s gotta hug!" Taylor cried back throwing his arms around Zac.
Mira laughed and took one of her bags out of the back. Walker helped with the rest of the bags and suitcases and filed into the house where there was more commotion.
The feeling inside the Hanson home was strange but familiar to Mira. Everyone was older but the house still smelled the same - like fresh fruit for some reason. Taylor and Mira greeted the younger Hanson kids along with Diana before making it to their rooms.
By now, Isaac had moved out and Taylor and Zac shared their room. "Wow," Taylor stretched and fell back on the bed that was now his since they separated the bunk beds.
"Oklahoma," Mira sighed falling onto Zac’s bed on her stomach.
"Home sweet home," Taylor said.
"Ooh, there’s a girl on my bed," Zac smiled walking into the room. "Hey baby," he said sitting on Mira’s back.
"Ugh," she groaned with the weight of Zac on her. The phone in their room rang and Taylor reached over to pick up the cordless.
"Hello?" he answered. "Julie," he sat up putting his feet on the ground.
Zac and Mira exchanged concerned looks.
"I literally just walked in the door.... no it’s okay," he smiled. "How are you?...I’m good.." Taylor stood up leaving his bedroom.
"She’s called like, 17 times," Zac said rolling over so he laid beside Mira. "I don’t think she’s quite gotten over him yet."
"Ah. Well he’s too cool for us, leaving the room and all," Mira said.
"I know. Hey, you wanna see my yearbook?" Zac asked.
"Sure," Mira laughed and sat up.
The first few days of summer vacation in Tulsa were pretty lazy. Mac, Avery, and Jessica were all in different daycamps during the day. Taylor, Zac, and Mira laid around the house most of the day watching TV. Occasionally, Julie came over and her and Taylor would sit in the backyard for hours at a time.
"So how long did you and Taylor date?" Amy asked. Amy was Isaac’s fiancé and she was over at the Hanson house one afternoon bringing Jessica and Avery’s shoes for the wedding.
"Um," Mira broke her stare from Taylor and Julie in the backyard. "About a year."
"Wow," Amy nodded pulling her shoulder length blonde hair into a ponytail. "And you guys have just been friends ever since you ran into him again?"
"Yep. Pretty much best friends," Mira said joining Amy on the couch.
"Nothing more?" Amy raised her eyebrows.
Mira let out a small laugh. "Nah. It never happened."
"Taylor’s a good guy," Amy nodded. "I think Julie’s having a hard time letting go," she said looking out the sliding glass door.
"She seems nice. She doesn’t say much," Mira said.
"Yeah. I think seeing Taylor drew up old feelings, ya know?"
"Yeah," Mira said quietly.
