have no fear, mike b. is here
with the gracious help of mike bruneau on drums, bottle rocket blue played at
the kouts pork fest on saturday. mike filled in for monroe who was in transit from the
dominican republic. this previous week, he was working as a videoographer with a UN humanitarina mission. i think
he got the gig through a Spring Hill contact, but you'd have to ask him about that.
mike certainly delivered at the unfortunately named festival. a lot of towns
have flowers or fruits for thier yearly festivals, but not kouts, IN. no they have red meat.
there are a lot of swine farms and packing plants in kouts. oink. but don't get me wrong,
its a good feeling, and appreciated when we get asked to return to venues.
mike came into demotte on friday. he had the pleasure of being privy to a
brb buissiness meeting over dinner at mike's kitchen in demotte. there
maybe some exciting things happening in the next six months. i'm trying to
stay hopeful. we practiced for a couple of hours after that. it soon became
apparent that there was no one else who could have done the job so well
and so quickly. i had a ball. you know, there hasn't been a band that i've been
in that mike hasn't played the drums in some capacity at least once. i am
very used to his style. i could sense how he would react to the songs. i was
enjoying listening to troy and barry explaing their reactions to mike. having a
sit in drummer also helped me hear the old stuff with fresh ears. which was good for me.
after our practice we hung out at boundary waters lodge for a while. back at chez tom, mike checked his
e mail after i did and we watched part of young frankenstein. it was then i posted my first video on myspace.
this is part of a grander scheme involving starting a you tube channel.
so, the next day, it was raining. we got a call that we would be in a tent
at the practice space we ran through the set then loaded up and headed for kouts.
after a subway lunch we waited for our turn at the tent, which was really just
a bunch of tarpaulin and conduit over pic nic tables. fortuneately the rain held off and there was
a decent crowd on hand. we had some repeat fans from last year which was cool.
there were also a large number of baptists waiting to overtake the stage area.
a baptist church band was going to play praise and worship music in the time slot
after us. most of the church was there. we rocked those baptists! (whether they wanted it or not)
there was one table with some ladies who wanted an encore. the lady in charge of the stage
wouldn't let us. i wanted to.
i got home and took a shower. i was hot humid and sticky and i got extra sweaty during the show. you know,
there is nothing like dry clean clothes after a warm shower after being in the rain. its great.
