who wants to be a hundredaire? 6/3/06

So BRB played a friend of a friend's birthday party. He turned 30 and a half, so it was a surprise party. At the end of Shannon St. in Valpo, on a cul de sac. They day was warm, but fair. The houses were nice, the lawns- green, the people- comfy. (or so they appeared). Anyway, I was tempted to say we were rocking the suburbs. But the house was in an established neighborhood. But it did feel a little silly setting up in a peaceful, middle class back yard when last night we played in a dark, grungy, and packed rock club in a metropolis. To say we are musical ambasadors, is my way of being proud that we don't stick to one type of show or scene all the time. A cynic would say, “That's B.S., you are musical whores and haven't really taken off...” Look at me, thinking too much again.

While we were loading up after two hours of playing, a man looked up from his cell phone and asked the people around him, “Where's Trannsylvania?” There was some chatter and somehow I got the impression that he was being called by someone for “Who Wants to Be A Millionaire?” the game show. Barry had the answer that its in Romainia. He wasn't being called as a lifeline, but the phrase “who wants to be a millionaire?” got stuck in my head. Right at about this time, the girl who hired us handed me the check for our services- to the total of twohundred dollars. So I changed my thought to “Who wants to be a hundredaire?”

I've been reading a book calle Blue Like Jazz. It was loaned to me by Eric Fisher. I feel like it has had a positive effect on my life. I need to learn to love myself. Admittedly, I don't. If you are a Christian or were one or have been burned by the church, I recommend this book.

The first set of number from our radio promoter just came in. We have been added to well over a hundred college radio stations. There is a difference between being added and charting. Charting is the next level, meaning the song's been played enough for to be in the station's top whatever. One of my favorite is a #3 charting in Philladelphia. Another is a #25 in Auburn, New York.
