Today I spent close to 12 hours behind a digital video camera as Todd Bushong helped film footage for our up and coming EPK and/or some on line shorts that we are refering to as “the documentary.” (EPK refers to “electronic press kit.” or promotional/informational video. Shooting began in Valpo, then in the van up the skyway into Chicago. Zika and Steph came along, so I had fun driving the van at full capacity.
There were a couple of moments that were serendipitous for the film. The first happened when we were standing under the L right by the IIT student center. There is this really cool, freestanding tunnel that is very reminiscient of Charles De Gaul airport in Paris. We were under it, Todd was getting a shot from the ground in front of us. After a second a train shot out of the tunnel over us. I said it reminded me of U2' “Beautiful Day” video, which was shot at Charles De Gaul airport in Paris.
After that, we drove up to Lincoln Park zoo. The day was getting colder and gray. There wasn't much to see at the Zoo. The lions and tigers were about. The monkey house made me introspective, as always. The squirels thought we would give them food. That was funny.
We ate dinner at a Thai restaurant two blocks south of Wrigley field called Cozy's. When in wrigleyville, eat at Cozy's, a feast for the pallette and the eyes.
We ended the day in the juinction of Bucktown and Wicker Park, more specifically the intersecrtion of Damen, North, and Milwaukee. In an alley near by, we got the other magic moment I was referring to. We were walking away from the camera and just as we got under a street light. It turned itself off. I felt cool than it sounds, and Todd said it was great. I look forward to seeing some of this footage all cut together.
