NAME: John-Paul White
JOB IN BAND: Guitars, keys, lead vocals.
Your fav bands: So many! Graham Coxon's solo stuff is great, as well as Pavement, Blur, Grandaddy, Gorkys Zygotic
Mynci, Super Furry Animals, Weezer. As for the locality I'm a
big fan of Snowfield, 35 Seconds, The Program, Murdoch, My Dad Hitla, Chester Road, and so
many more!
Your fav venue: To play? Best is
a tie between the Flapper & Firkin and the Jug of Ale in Birmingham, they
epitomise everything a small venue should be.
Most influential record: I was locked within a Beatles/sixties rut from the
age of 11 until 1997 when Blur's 'Blur' album came out (more specifically
hearing Beetlebum on the radio for the first time'). At last I'd found a
style of guitar pop which allowed for sonic madness! After that many records
have caught my imagination, in terms of songwriting it's "Fuzzy Logic" (SFA)
and "Songs of Ignorance" by little known Aberystwyth band 'Murry the Hump'.
Fondest gig memory: In terms of Silversuit probably our first ever gig at
the Flapper & Firkin, I'd never seen it so full. Best gig I've ever been to
see was probably Hope of The States at Oxegen Festival this year,
but my mind changes lots, there was one time I'm sure I regarded Kula Shaker
at Aston Villa Leisure Centre my fav gig, now I realise I must have been
deaf, drunk or asleep.
Most embarrassing gig memory: smashing a guitar on stage in front of a not so
sizeable crowd at The Bay in Aberystwyth with Silversuit's punk predecessor,
the neck ricocheted of the ceiling down onto my head but I was too drunk to
notice, although people thought it was rock n roll comedy I try not to smash
equipment anymore, it's quite a sad thing to do!
