Chapter Seven: Son Goku’s Halo

Zechs pulled out his gun and aimed for Relena’s heart.

“Can’t you just stay dead?” he asked as the group put some distance between them and the crazed sorceress. Relena stepped into the light and a collective shudder ran through the group. Most of Relena’s face was burned, and portions of the burned areas had sunken into her face. Her blue eyes blazed with raw hatred as her eyes rested on WuFei.

“I will destroy you if it’s the last thing I do!” Relena shrieked as her eyes began to glow blue. Wufei’s eyes flashed as his hands glowed green and he stepped forward.

“You’re barely alive Relena. And I’ll see to it that you die.” WuFei bit back, venom in his voice.

“Wufei, don’t. We still don’t know how powerful she is.” Duo said as he stood next to his lover, his own hands glowing a gentle amaryllis.

“Duo, get the others out of here.” WuFei said as he and Relena began to chant.

“We’ll stay and help WuFei. Just because we don’t know magic that doesn’t mean that we still can’t hurt her.” Zechs said as his ice blue eyes watched the beginning of the battle with growing dismay.

"None of you shall leave. Giga Yan!” Relena shouted as twin beams of blue shot from her hands, grabbing Quatre from the group and hauling the blonde into the air.

“Quatre!” Heero screamed as Relena slammed Quatre into crumbling boulders all around her. Heero pulled out his gun and shot at Relena, the bullets catching her in the thigh and in one of her hands. Relena swore as she dropped Quatre, her arm and leg bleeding.

“A free shot boy. One that will cost you dearly.” Relena swore as she walked towards them, another spell escaping her lips. The pathway beneath them began to shake and crumble and pieces of it began to fly off. Duo concentrated and surrounded his friends within a purple orb as they rose into the air, Quatre landing on the bubble and into Heero’s arms. The blonde was bleeding from the back of his head from the blow he received from being slammed into walls.

“Heero.” Quatre mumbled as he opened his eyes, wincing in pain as Heero’s cobalt eyes widening as he felt Quatre’s warm blood seeping through his clothes.

“Damnit! Go back to the ship!” WuFei muttered as he escaped from Duo’s bubble and met Relena in mid air, the two sages floating through the use of a floatation spell. Relena cackled as her hands danced in mid air and came together in a clap.

“Sempa bolts!” she screamed as cackling blue and yellow arrows shot from her hand, catching WuFei in his arm. WuFei bit his lip and unleashed a spell of his own.

“Dragon Devourer!” he shot back as two green dragons leapt from his chest, their gleaming green scales burning themselves into Relena’s chest. Relena only smiled as they landed back on the ground, WuFei dropping to one knee as he spat up blood.

“Your spell may be prettier than mine, but mine are always laced with poison Dragon Hunter. Now I’ll kill that stupid detective and that idiotic captain before your very eyes!” Relena said as she hurled a black ball teemed with blue light at Duo’s bubble. Duo’s bubble turned black and broke apart, spilling its occupants to the ground.

“Fire Catcher!” WuFei yelled as the ground below his friends turned red. Duo, Quatre, Heero and Zechs landed, cushioned by the spell WuFei had cast. WuFei’s breath hitched as he felt the poison working deep into his system.

“You bitch!” Duo screamed as his eyes glowed purple. He ran at Relena, his hands a furious dark purple as his arms clamped around Relena’s. She screamed at the pain that began to eat through her as Duo tried to come up with a spell.

“Duo!” Zechs called as he gave Heero his coat to stop Quatre’s bleeding. He ran to WuFei’s side to help the DH stand, WuFei’s sloe eyes awash in pain.

“Leave him. He knows what he’s doing. Give me your hand.” WuFei whispered as Zechs held him close.

“What are you saying?! You’re hurt!” Zechs said as Duo’s screams began to fill the air as Relena fought back, forcing her power into Duo.

“You can’t handle my power boy. You never will. You will die!” Relena whispered as her blond hair, streaked red with blood covered her piercing blue eyes.

“Never. I can’t let you hurt WuFei. Over my dead body.” Duo bit as he was forced to both knees, his amethyst eyes locked in pain.

“You’re already dead.” Relena bit back. Relena winced as a bullet buried itself in her chest. She looked up and saw Zechs holding WuFei’s waist, in the other hand, his gun barrel smoking.

“No, you are!” Zechs yelled.

“Do it now Zechs.” WuFei whispered as Relena’s blue eyes widened. WuFei’s hand rested over Zechs and the blond felt WuFei’s energy fill him. The blond’s eyes glowed white and he felt his body change as WuFei’s mind filled his own.

“Concentrate Zechs. For the love of heaven, concentrate!” WuFei shouted, pain racking through his own body.

“It burns WuFei.” Zechs whispered as he fell to his knees, still clutching WuFei.

“I know. It’ll be over soon. Now repeat the spell I told you and aim for Relena’s heart. You can do this.” WuFei replied. Zechs nodded and opened his eyes. A bow of white and green light formed between him and WuFei and a white arrow of pure light formed.

“In the darkest night, in the brightest day, may my aim be true and bring forth the power of light, White Arrow!” Zechs yelled as he and WuFei’s fingers curled in a fist. The arrow shot from them, burning its way into Relena’s body. She screamed as she was devoured, her blue eyes tearing as a familiar image danced across her vision.

“Merian...” she whispered as the light enveloped her and dissolved her into nothing but stardust. As the light faded away, Zechs collapsed, WuFei still in his arms. The Dragon Hunter breathed a sigh of relief as Relena’s poisoning spell slowly retreated from his body.

“Gods! WuFei!” Duo said as he ran over to his lover.

“She’s gone. Forever.” WuFei whispered as he smiled, brushing back Duo’s chestnut locks. Between them, they picked up Zechs and walked over to Heero and Quatre.

“I managed to stabilize him. We need to go back to the ship.” Heero said as he picked up his lover in his arms.

“I’ll get us there. WuFei, just rest” Duo said as he summoned the remnants of his magic and took them back to the ship. Geyon fretted in worry as Quatre was stitched up in the sick bay, the green eyed blond coming to as a drink of water was poured down his throat.

“You’re going to be okay.” Heero said as he kissed his lover, worry etched in his handsome features. Quatre smiled and turned his head to the side. Next to him on the opposite bed lay Zechs, the white blond captain still unconscious.

“What happened to him?” Quatre asked as Heero helped him sit up.

“Fei-chan channeled his energy into Zechs to unleash an attack on Relena. Zechs body isn’t used to that kind of power, so it kind of drained him. But he’ll come to. Look, he’s waking up.” Duo said as Zechs moaned a bit as his eyes slowly rolled open.

“Zechs. Are you all right?” WuFei asked as he sat by Zechs side. The blond opened his eyes.

“I thought I died.” Zechs mumbled as he put a hand to his aching forehead.

“You’re very much alive, but your hands sustained some burn injuries. I wrapped them.” Duo said as he grinned and pointed at his own chest which was neatly bandaged, as well as his hands.

“Relena didn’t like you much eh?” Zechs said with a laugh as his eyes took in his crew’s condition. Quatre had a bandage around his head but was up and about. Heero had one across a thigh and on his arm and WuFei had his wrists in bandages.

“No worse for wear Zechs. Relena’s gone and the Halo’s ours.” Heero said with a nod.

“Great job at handling magic Zechs. There’s a chance for you yet.” WuFei said with a smile. Zechs smiled back, a faint blush on his cheeks. It felt incredible, being surrounded by you...our minds touched in that moment and it burned with such...power. WuFei noticed the faint blush but said nothing.

~~~ WuFei, are you okay?~~~ Duo asked as they all headed outside again to claim their treasure.

~~~ Ah...does Zechs really have potential? ~~~ Duo asked as he noticed the blond captain leading the way through the twisted passageway that led to the Halo’s chamber.

~~~ He does. They all do. It’s all a matter of unlocking their power. But it’s all over. ~~~ WuFei said with a smile.

The group entered a chamber after Duo blasted down the titanium doors. In the center of the room a golden halo floated, chibi robots forming a barrier around it. Zechs shot at one of them and they all disappeared in a tiny high pitched wail. A holographic image appeared over the halo. It was the face of a young man with a well sculpted bronze face, his black eyes light with laughter and his black hair wild.

“Hello. I’m Son Goku. If you’ve made it this far, then you deserve my halo. If you happen to be an evil person, your search was for naught because as soon as you touch this halo, you will be instantly fried and it will return back to me. If you’re good, this halo will bestow power on those who touch it. But you must all touch it at once and then the halo will disappear because well, I need it in the after life. It’s not just the wings that make an angel.” Son Goku said with a hearty chuckle. His face disappeared and the shield around the halo dropped. Its golden light surged through the room, blinding everyone for a moment.

“Is he serious?” Quatre asked as they all stood around the halo, it seemed to be alive as it shimmered in their eyes.

“Yes. Well, we came all this way. Let’s do it.” Zechs said with a smile. The all nodded and placed a hand on the halo at the same time. Warmth filled them, their souls filling with power. The halo jumped, shimmered and then disappeared in a flash of light. They stood in awe, and then Zechs burst into a laugh.

“I can feel it!” he bubbled in excitement as he focused all his energy into his palm. He winced a bit. His wrists still hurt from channeling WuFei’s power but a golden white light ball formed between his fingers. Quatre and Heero did the same and a green and white ball formed in his hands. In Heero’s hands a blue and brown ball formed. Duo tried and a purple and brown ball formed in his hands. They all turned expectantly at WuFei’s but the sloe eyed boy said nothing.

“I’m glad that you all have the ability to use magic. This way, I won’t have to save your sorry asses from trouble.” WuFei said with a grin. The others laughed and Duo grinned.

“Zechs, you mus tall return to the ship. The planet is falling apart. It’s as if it’s lost its center of gravity.” Geyon said over Zechs’ radio. The ground splintered beneath them and the group took off running. Reaching Geyon in record time as they departed from the planet as it exploded. As they watched they saw Son Goku’s image for a moment, his white feathery wings flapping against the darkness of space and above his dark mane of hair floated a golden halo. He smiled and disappeared.

“Did anyone see that?” Duo asked as he rubbed his eyes in amazement.

“I registered an abnormal energy reading from the planet if that’s what you mean.” Geyon replied as they flew into the sea of stars.

“We all did Duo. Well, I think we should call it day. I’m exhausted to be honest.” Zechs said as he locked in the coordinates for Dawn78.

“Okay then. Destination, Dawn78. Arrival time in 45hours. Get some rest.” Geyon said as he set his engines to sub ether drive. The crew trouped to their respective cabins and spent their own time discovering the limit of their new found power.

Duo lay sated in WuFei’s arms as he and his lover snuggled under their blankets.

“I love you Fei-chan.” Duo whispered as he kissed WuFei, the sloe eyed boy kissing his lover’s sleepy eyes.

“I love you too Du-chan. Now get some sleep.” WuFei replied as he coaxed his lover to sleep. Duo was soon snoring gently and WuFei got dressed and slipped out of his lover’s cabin. He walked down the hallway and heard the shimmering of magic. He felt the energy and knew that it was Zechs. He approached the captain’s door and knocked on it.

“Come in.” Zechs voiced called from within. The door slid open and WuFei stepped in. Zechs sat on his bed, in a pair of worn blue jeans and a red silk shirt unbuttoned. His fingers were glowing blue and white and a hologram twirled in his palm. The hologram dissolved as Zechs looked up.

“Hello WuFei. It’s late.” Zechs said as WuFei stood at the foot of Zechs bed.

“I know. You’re practicing?” WuFei asked as Zechs rubbed his bandaged wrists.

“Well, I remembered that you cast a sort of healing spell when Duo first got hurt. I know I’m nowhere near as powerful as you but I’m trying to see what I can do with the power that Son Goku’s Halo gave us. I’m having no success because my hands hurt too much and I’m tired.” Zechs said with a sigh as he flopped back on his bed.

“Let me see you hands.” WuFei spoke as he sat on Zech’s bed and took the blond’s hands in his. Zechs sat silently as he observed that WuFei’s hair was down and that his lips were a bit swollen. He also smelt of sex.

“WuFei, why did you kiss me that night?” Zechs asked, the question that had nagged him coming to mind again. WuFei froze for a moment as he let Zechs’s hand fall from his own.

“I don’t know. You and Duo...you do something to me that I can’t understand. Duo loves me, heart and soul. But it will forever be tainted by what happened on the Yonrose. He can’t forgive himself Zechs. And I don’t know what to do. And then there’s you. I’ve been at odds with you since I first met you. Even though you didn’t know magic, that didn’t stop you for putting your life on the line for your crew and for me. And you love me even though I don’t love you. Doesn’t it hurt?” WuFei asked. Zechs blinked, his ice blue eyes meeting WuFei’s.

“It doesn’t matter that you love Duo. All that matters to me is that you know that I love you WuFei and you haven’t pushed me away.” Zechs replied as he looked into WuFei’s sloe eyes. WuFei nodded and rose from the bed.

“Get some sleep Zechs...and thank you.” WuFei replied with a smile as he kissed Zechs, the blond holding the sloe eyed boy stationary as their lips locked. WuFei pulled away and with another smile left Zechs’s room. Zechs pressed his fingers to his lips and sighed. I love you Fei.

WuFei slid under the sheets back in Duo’s room and snuggled up to his lover, his ebony strands sprayed across Duo’s chest. Duo opened his violet eyes as he yawned.

“Where did you go Fei-fei?” Duo asked as he kissed WuFei, his over responding in kind to the gentle assault on his lips.

“I went to talk to Zechs. He’s going to be okay.” WuFei replied as he threaded his fingers through wavy chestnut hair. Duo moaned into WuFei’s ear as his lover’s hands caressed his body with a lock of his hair.

“That’s good to hear. I can’t wait to get back to Dawn78. Commander Une will be so pleased.” Duo said excitedly as he wrapped his arm around WuFei’s waist. The Dragon Hunter was silent for a moment.

“I...I’ll miss you Duo.” WuFei said as he rested his head against his lover’s warm chest.

“You won’t have to. You can live with me.” Duo said as his fingers held WuFei’s chin so that he could clearly see his koibito’s eyes glimmer in the dark.

“I can’t. I’m a Hunter, remember?” WuFei replied. Duo sighed.

“I know, I know. Look, let’s sleep on it okay? I don’t want to lose you.” Duo said as he traced WuFei’s lips lovingly. WuFei nodded.

“Okay then. Goodnight Duo.” WuFei said as he kissed Duo and drifted to sleep. Duo held his lover close to him. He hadn’t mentioned it but he could sense some unrest in his itooshi. Zechs may be fine WuFei, but what about you? Duo mused as he watched his lover’s sleeping form. Duo resolved that when day broke, he would have a talk with Zechs.
