Mission Statement
In order to support the mission of Florida A&M University Libraries, the Systems Support Departments' intent is to provide competent and efficient staff support and state-of-the-art technology that is capable of satisfying the informational needs of the library and its users. We intend to use technology as a vehicle to offer more efficient and effective delivery of current services and to add new services to carry out the mission of the Library.

Goals
The Systems Office is responsible for developing, acquiring and maintaining automated resources. The purpose of this office is: (1) to provide technology and informational needs; (2) to train library staff and faculty in using the automated resources of the library; (3) to coordinate, plan, fully implement and maintain library systems; and (4) to keep abreast of new technology that can be used to improve services offered by the Library.

Information Commons
The Samuel H. Coleman Library has several new and always developing Information Commons areas with sophisticated learning software and access to online library resources. The Information Commons has two sub-sections, Scholar 1 & Scholar 2 located in the front of the library near circulation, and the second one located near the reference desk. The first sub-sections is equipped with 34 Dell Optiplex GX270 workstation on each side that are suitable for quiet individual work. The Dell PC's have Adobe Reader, MS Word & Excel, SciFinder Scholars, Internet Access, Pro Quest Print, and Fortress 101 & Clean State(Security). The 2nd Infromation Commons area located at near reference contains 33 Dell Optiplex 280 workstations. Equipped with SciFinder Scholars, Internet Access, Adobe Reader, Pro Quest Print, and Fortress 101 & Clean State(Security)

The Dell PCs are equipped with 2.4 GH RAM, 20/48x CD/DVD-ROM Drive, 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy Drive, 60 GB hard drives with a 15 inch flat screen monitor.

There are 3 HP Laserjet 4250 white printers on the second floor of the Information Commons. There are also 2 extra printer; one is located on the third floor near periodicals and the second is in the African American room on the 4th floor. Black and white printing in the Information Commons is $.10 a print for all University students and faculty; you , must have allocation on your rattler card/temp card in order to print within the library.

Computers Within Coleman
-Periodical contain 7 Dell Optiplex GX280 equipped with SciFinder Scholars, Internet Access, Adobe Reader, Pro Quest Print, and Fortress 101 & Clean State(security).
-Special Collections contains 5 Dell Optiplex GX280 SciFinder Scholars, Internet Access, Adobe Reader, Pro Quest Print, and Fortress 101 & Clean State(security).
-Circulations contains 3 Dell Optiplex GX280 SciFinder Scholars, Internet Access, Adobe Reader, Pro Quest Print, and Fortress 101 & Clean State( security).
-Group StudyRooms contains 2 Gateway 4600
-Jazzman Cafe contains 1 Dell Precision
-ADA contain 1 Gateway Solo 5300 with Adobe Reader and Microsoft Office Suite.

Other Support
System Support also provide services to all the other libraries located on our FAMU campus.
Science Research Center which has 49 Dell Optiplex GX 280, Architecture which has 7 Dell Optiplex GX 280, Journalism Resources has 10 of the Dell Optiplex 280, and finally Developmental Research Centers has one Dell Optiplex 280. All of theses desktop are equipped with SciFinder Scholars, Internet Access, Adobe Reader, Pro Quest Print, and Fortress 101 & Clean State(security). There are 3 Print Stations located thorught the 4 libraries and centers.


Systems Support is glad to support over 368 computers throughout the Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University campus.
