3001-Love in Zero Gravity
Sort a semi-dream-power-pop thing going here.
The dreamy pop residue is apparently from Sonic Youth exposure (but is
careful not to kick any ass). Maybe a
little copped “glide guitar” courteously donate by MBV. Produced nicely by the band and some other
guy. Rendered blander by NYC scenester
Wharton Tiers.
Maybe I should have been wary
based on the “press release” or “bio” or whatever. It says “Three guys spend too much time at bar. Start band.
Finally have something to talk about.”
Oh shit, track 2 is called “sports”.
It also says they spent their time at this “bar” “nibbling on foie gras
and sipping white wine.” No Budweiser
for these boys.
Vocalist is OK inoffensive. Oh, I’ve got it! I know what they’re going for.
They’re trying for the same effects as the Hang Ups (can make you cry so
beautiful I swear) for a similar mix done well. 3001 aren’t horrible.
Just so damn regular. They just
need to do a little bit more research and loosen up a bit. And go to a real bar.
