recipe for AMERICANA

Welcome To The:

"AMERICANA RECIPE"

In recent years a form of music has been sweeping not only TEXAS, but the entire nation.

AMERICANA

It's not totally new...a lot of great artists such as Hank, Hank Jr, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Radney Foster, Steve Earle, and the late, great
WAYLON JENNINGS
along with some more recent artist like Charlie Robison, Bruce Robison, and Pat Green have been showing Nashville that what record executives perceive as "marketable, pure, polished, sho-nuff country" is not always what people want to hear!

I've been working with some other local entertainers on an "Americana Showcase" at "LEGENDS" in Longview. One of the artists, Amy Durham, asked me what my definition of AMERICANA would be. Unfortunately I was at a loss for words at that point in time. However, after much thought, a couple of night's sleep, several beers, and a few more shows I figured it out!

There is no definition For AMERICANA!

There is only a "recipe"!

...and here it is, the way MACON sees it:

The number one "Rule of Thumb" is:
Americana and Country should never be considered one in the same!!!

(1)Take one versatile drummer who can work with a trash can and some spoons,

if he has to.

(2)Toss in one lead man that can cover chords, chops, riffs, rips, solos and slides.

from Robert Johnson to John Mellencamp

(3)Hey, Don't forget that laid-back, stone-faced bass man...

he ties it all together!

OK Folks, Grab a blender and use the next few ingredients according to taste!!!

(a) a little bit of Country

(b) a small pinch of Rock and Roll
(c) just a dash of Jazz R&B
(d) a big smidgen of Pop songs and Waltzes
(e) as much originality as You can stand...this is what makes it good!
Just For Fun!!!
hit it with some tobasco...
...surely You didn't forget salt and lime?
OK, just a small helping of harmonica/banjo/mandolin is nice but not absolutely necessary!

Wrap all that up with a Rhythm/Vocalist...chase it with a cooler full of Keystone Light and a pack of Winstons...there it is:

Down Home Texas AMERICANA!

HOPE YOU ENJOY!!!
