Kayo's
parents took us to a nice local restaurant that specialized in pizza
(not a pizza place, more like a tavern, only with less booze and more
food, that focused on Italian stuff). We got a nice pizza, and some
paella, and some dessert, and of course a pitcher of beer followed
by a carafe of wine (a merlot, which doesn't really go with pizza,
imho, but it's all good.)
After
that and dessert we were all stuffed and inebriated, and Kayo and
I finally managed to convince her father to let us pick up the check
for once (typically, at least in my experience in Japan, the head
of the household considers it his right and duty to pay for everyone
else, and never relenquishes that power).
During
dinner, Kayo's mom also mentioned that she found some old audio cassettes
of Kayo (circa the mid-70s!), so they're digging them up right now
as we speak, and hopefully I'll put one online (though i don't know
why!) in the near future.
Making
the evening even cooler was the fact that the Y100 Store we stopped
in on the way home was playing Megadeth's "Tornado of Souls"
when we went in. :D
And
I spent most of the afternoon practicing "War Ensemble"
(it's pretty straightforward until you try to sing it AND do the guitar
parts at the same time). And of course I wasted a number of hours
on Deus Ex as well, dammit!
late
addition: Grave of the Fireflies is on TV right now! I walk
out, Kayo's watching it, I go, "Ooh! Grave of the Fireflies!"
and she goes, "Yeah, it's on every August." August is the
anniversary of the atomic bombings and of the war's end, of course.
Pretty cool, I thought. (GotF is one of those long, boring
types of animes that is still nonetheless cool in an emotionally impactful
sorta way, a nice diversion from robots and boobs if you should require
such a change!)
