Sarnia; Beyond The Chemical ValleyPhilip MacKinnon
The best Sarnia has to offer a traveler is further in, and worth the drive. Under the twin Bluewater Bridges you will be offered a wonderful view of the riverfront, in my view the best French Fries in Canada at "Albert's Original Rolling Lunch", and the Point Edward Casino.
Down Michigan road in Point Edward you will be treated to a variety of small shops and delightful restaurants, including the locally renowned fish and chips at the Bridge Tavern. During the warmer months the best place to find refreshment is "Ice Cream Galore" often with lines out the door, but worth the wait.
Throughout the city you can find a meal fitting whatever mood you are in, Cosmos Tavern an Italian eatery, the Red Tango or Smoked Oyster for a more high class get together, or the Embassy Diner for the lunch special of the day.
For nightlife Sarnia has something to offer almost anyone whatever their tastes, a selection of night clubs around the city including Tequila Rocks and the Campbell Street Station, as well as Nado's the blues bar or Dooly's pool hall.
During the Race season you can go to Hiawatha Race Track for both live and simulcast raceing, and all year slots are available on the racegrounds. For the family there is East Side Mario's restaurant, or one of the city's many bowling alleys. During the sumer season you and the kids can spend a day at Bluewater Fun Park. The Sarnia Sports & Entertainment Complex offers a variety of concerts and shows throughout the year.
Overall Sarnia may give off an unsavoury view for the first time traveler, in truth there is a lot Sarnia can offer if you take the time to explore it a little bit.
