Grub Crawl 2000 Follow UpPhilip MacKinnonPhilip MacKinnon Events such as the "Grub Crawl" are good ways to experience Windsor social life and meet new people according to Student Representative Council directors Crystal Elschner and Adam Geml and this was no exception. Approximately 74 people attended the event, and another Grub Crawl is planned for next semester. The event was a success in the eyes of the student's who attended; "I've never had this much fun!" was a common sentiment of the lips of many participants. All enjoyed free food such as, Burrito's, Pasta, Chicken Wings, Mozzarella Sticks, and Pizza. Drink specials were offered by some of the participating bars, as well as party games such as the Baby Bottle BJ game put on by Peppers, and complimentary t-shirts. Windsor police were on location at Griff's after the event to make certain that no one who was over the legal limit drove home. The participants met the police with good natured fun, taking the sobriety test with a laugh over the results and promises to make use of the complimentary Taxi's provided by the SRC. "I would not say there are any major problems with the Grub Crawl Event. "However visiting fewer establishments, would have allowed us to spend more time at each stop." Say's Adam Geml concerning any problems during the event. For upcoming events like Grub Crawl there is a need for more non-drinking volunteer leaders. "The only things that I would change would be to reduce the amount of establishments we visit and to have more non-drinking volunteer leaders." Is Adam's thought on changing the format of the event. "Grub Crawl was a success not only because all tickets sales went to our Shinerama campaign (Fundraiser to Cystic Fibrosis) but also to all those who helped me run the event, such as Dave and Brian out Saint designers, Dave, Marie and especially Sandra in Griff's and all the staff, the bus drivers, the establishments we visited and most of all the rest of the SRC board who provided encouragement and support." Is what worked best for Adam during the event. At the end of the night the partying crowd who had first left Griff's returned to complimentary pizza and non-alcoholic beverages. The cab's provided by the SRC were put to immediate use by the students who were in no condition to drive. |
