Born to a studious, intellectual family, some might jokingly describe Gaby, i5's mezzo-soprano, as the black sheep of her family. While her siblings and cousins pursued careers in engineering and law, Gaby pursued a modeling and television career. Well, okay, she did also study for a degree in electrical engineering in Mexico. She was then compelled to temporarily set aside her future as an engineer when destiny came calling with i5. A formally trained singer, actor and salsa dancer, Gaby possessed that inexplicable "star quality" i5 was looking for. It was immediately apparent that she would be the next piece of the puzzle. Gaby was similarly impressed with the group's soulful harmonies and funky moves. "When I saw us all dancing in the mirror during the auditions, I knew this was it," Gaby says. "There was something special about the way we all came together." Opinionated and forthright, Gaby is the member most likely to deliver constructive criticism. "I'm very blunt, but the girls understand and accept me," Gaby says. "I grew up with guys who were very honest. Everything was black and white to them. That's how I am. The girls know that when I say something, it's from a honest place, not a mean place." A fan of Luis Miguel, Mariah Carey and Latin house music, Gaby wants to help make i5 a symbol of global unity. "We like Middle Eastern and Latin house music, so we want to incorporate those sounds into our own music," she says.
