In Sunnydale, the beautiful and popular, Cordelia Chase, is what Buffy was before her destiny called. As such, the two hold a mutual dislike towards one another, antagonism, as well as understanding. They are constantly being thrown into the most absurd situations, demonstrating two opposite, and yet eerily similar responses to crisis. Part of Buffy was, without a doubt, jealous of the seemingly simple life Cordelia led, and part of Cordelia was jealous of the uniqueness that is Buffy. They constantly served as one another's foils, defining themselves, at least in part, based on what the other was up to. Now that they're in separate cities, and now that they've grown up some, their differences are not nearly as pronounced. Cordelia grew up. At least some. Buffy got over her constant preoccupation with impending doom. At least some. Still, when they end up in the same place at the same time, don't think for a second that they are on the same side of the proverbial fence.
