One of 3 brothers to join the seminary, he was drafted into the Army on graduation.
He served in the Viet nam War as a chaplain in a battle active unit, where he
saw much more combat than any man should have ever seen.
He was discharged after his tour and applied for his own parish. He was appointed
to a poor black neighborhood where he made it his job to keep the nieghborhood boys out of trouble and the girls off the street, with moderate success.
He attended night schol for his teaching degree, then applied to NYU, CUNY and Manhatten College where he thought he could continue his "work." instead his
superiors assigned him a position as the Roman Catholic Priest and lecturer on
theology at Dumont.
