Is anyone as good as they really think?

Do we check what we say each time we blink?

Do we remember Allah throughout the day?

Do we feel His presence each time we pray?

Are we really as kind as everyone says?

Do we ever pretend,

To earn human praise?

Do we speak with a voice that’s sweet,

but put on?

Do we remain as righteous,

When ‘everyone’s’ gone?

Do we always possess a sweet sickly smile?

And how long does it last,

A week or a while?

Are we really so modest to lower our eyes?

So, when our friends leave,

Just see how they rise!

Do we really act with a clear open heart?

And to worship Allah our day do we start?

Do we check our intention,

Before we begin?

Do we repent with sincerity,

When we fall in sin?

Do we praise our One Lord,

And mean what we say?

And are we prepared,

To face judgement day?

Do we remember our death,

Seventy-five times a day?

And bring tears to our eyes,

Each time that we pray?

Do we publicly object,

And secretly do?

Do we lie and spread slander,

Or do we speak true?

Are we swift to pick faults,

With others who try?

Or do we prepare,

For the day that we die?

Do we recite the Qur’an,

With such effort and care,

When ‘nobody’s’ listening,

And no one is there?

Do we think of Allah when we mumble and swear?

And do we shout at our parents,

When ‘nobody’s’ there?

So, dear brother and sister,

I ask us to blink,

And ask ourselves:

Are we as good as we think?
