TYSON MAKES HISTORY OF HOLMES

Although he appeared to come with the correct game plan, Larry Holmes could not maintain the frustrating pace of the fight long enough as Mike Tyson eventually caught him and closed the history books on his elder opponent. Holmes caused Tyson and the audience much grief as he continued to grab Tyson’s arms and make the fight excruciatingly difficult to follow. It was all part of Holmes’ plan to limit the early action to be picked up later when he saw fit; unfortunately for Holmes, Tyson came to fight and started landing bombs in the fourth and final round as Holmes was sent to the canvas on three occasions, the third seeing Holmes land awkwardly as he legs deflated under him. It was another explosive performance by the undisputed Heavyweight Champion and probably the last for the former great.
