In what is fast becoming a tradition at OOTB, Kevin is another performer who is over from Ireland for a little while, and will be playing at some open mics in Edinburgh in the near future. He had an original, spacey sound, both in his guitar playing and in his vocal, you got the feeling that the music was somehow emanating from somewhere outside of Kevin himself. His first song "I Think It's Time To Go" (actually called "Roughly 2a.m." - ed.) had some lovely discordances in it, and the lines "Reminds me of what I once told was right/I just don't know anymore" reflected the mood of melancholic searching very well. A very emotive, desperate-sounding vocal on his third song had him beseeching "I still love you so/Drinking through the night", and had him strumming furiously to show the emotional torment, and showed good use of dynamics too. Kevin's style is definitely worth checking out, he's not afraid to take a chance and experiment, which is something I like. Check out some of the other open mics in August to hear him play.
