Slinky Blammed for Enron Scandal
:
An entry in former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling's personal diary blammed the "slinky" for the Enron Scandal. Apparently in the October of 2000, Skilling had picked up a slinky which began "talking" to him. He tried to push it away, but where ever he went, it continued to show up telling him he needed to cooperate or his life would be threatened. Apparently it forced him to sell his $20 million in Enron stock between January and February. Fellow former Chair men Ken Lay commented on seeing Skilling walking around and "conversing with the slinky." "It was close to the strangest thing I've ever seen, second to my wife's bunyan, he would walk around talking to this thing like it was a person, we started making fun of him calling him Dr. DooSLinky," says Lay. When David Duncan, a former Andersen partner was told by Skilling that he had to shred the evidence he declined the task, but was told he would face the wrath of the slinky by Skilling. "I thought he was crazy, I thought he was threatening my life, but with a slinky? I didn't want to take that chance." says Duncan. Clearly if anyone is to blame for all this it is the slinky and it's mysterious power to communicate with CEO's of entrepreneurial corporations.
