Three men who were armed with shotguns, cutlasses and
knives told their victims that they were on a drive to make
money and were not robbing poor people.
Doctors have since advised the mother to undergo blood
tests.
Relating the 20-minute ordeal to this newspaper yesterday
the woman said shortly after 3 am, her brother was in the
toilet in the yard when the three bandits struck. She said he
was forced to leave the toilet and escorted them upstairs.
Once upstairs, one of the bandits kept guard outside, while
the other two marched inside the house. Stabroek News was told
that other relatives were asleep in the living room and they
were awakened and commanded to lay face downwards while the
bandits demanded money.
"Wheh de box money that y'all draw down," one of
the bandits asked while beating one man on his posterior.
The man said he did not know and the bandits then covered
their faces and forced them into a bedroom and under the bed.
In the room, the bandits came upon the men's mother.
"When dey see me, one ah dem seh, 'Doan be afraid muds,
we thought it was Indian people house. Y'all ah poor people we
wouldn't do y'all anything'," the woman said.
However, the bandits continued to terrorise the family,
threatening to shoot them if they made any noise. The
children's mother said one of the men ransacked her room,
checking her purse for money and for other valuables. She said
they did not find anything and one of them went outside and
found her daughter.
The pregnant woman said the bandit who would later rape her
asked her a few questions about herself and reputed husband
before going into the kitchen where he used some
oil to lubricate himself. He then covered her face with
a sheet and sexually assaulted her vaginally and anally. She
said the doctor's examination revealed that she had suffered
cuts and bruises. The woman said she had never been so
humiliated, and was hoping and praying that nothing serious
happens to her or the child she is carrying.
Leaving that family the bandits moved to another location
where they carted off one television set, one VCR and a stereo
set. Stabroek News was told that the bandits struck at around
3.30 am at the home of Komal Singh.
Singh who lives with other relatives said the men broke
into his home and hit him on the head. They then demanded
cash, but he did not have any and as such they carried away
the articles.
The police were called in and a search was made at the home
of one of the suspects. A bread knife with peanut butter
plastered on its blade which was stolen from the first house
was found stuck in the man's door. The lawmen recovered the
knife and immediately set out on a search. It is not clear
whether this man is one of the two who were caught.
Police Public Relations Officer, John Sauers confirmed that
the two men in custody are suspects from the robbery at Singh's
home. He could not say whether either man was responsible
for the sexual assault on the pregnant woman. But residents
were adamant that they were the same men who had entered the
Albouystown home.
Neighbours were outraged at the atrocities meted out to the
pregnant woman. They were adamant that the perpetrators are
from the community, noting that one of them ran away leaving a
pair of slippers behind. The same men were said to have thrown
a huge rock onto the roof of a house in the area while
escaping.
