Rocket Body Photo

This is a picture of one of the rockets that I am still working on a month after this picture. It is a prototype to test my new recovery system. unfortunetly on its first launch the thrust was so great that it pushed the bottle mount into the rocket breaking a very important wire that triggers the recovery system which failed to deploy. In other words it crashed hard.

The rocket is made of a mailing tube and cardboard fins. The fins are glued with polyurethane that I injected between packing tape. The new rocket will have fiberglass fins and I am still debating making the whole body out of fiberglass. The rocket when it was finished had a three layer paint job. First was laytex paint which didn't soak into the cardboard tube like the black spray paint which was the second layer. The black spray paint gave the rocket a jet black color and the third layer which was emnamel spray paint gave the rocket a gloss finish. I should have taken a picture of the rocket finished before it crashed but it was just a prototype and the next one will look much better.

I hope you like the picture I cleaned my desk before took it.
