"HISTORY OF LAWRENCE, ORANGE & WASHINGTON COUNTIES INDIANA" GOODSPEED BROS. 1884 DAVID LONG is the fourth of twelve children of JOHN and ELIZABETH (MARTIN) LONG, and was born in Woodford County, Kentucky, October 26, 1823. His father was born near Richmond, Virginia, November 6, 1796, and his mother in Woodford County, KY. They were married in 1818, and came to this county in 1829. David remained at home until twenty-five years of age, receiving in youth limited schooling. February 22, 1848, he was united in marriage with SARAH FISH. Eight children have blessed this union, five of whom are now living: CHARLOTTE, ARETAS W., ELI A., JESSE R. and C. EDITH. Mr. Long is a farmer and owns ninety-one acres of excellent land in the famous Leatherwood District, Shawswick Township, Lawrence County, Indiana. He is a Republican, and he and wife are members of the Christian Church. His son, Jesse R., is a teacher of Penmanship and phonograghy and typewriting at the Central Indiana Normal School.
